What color of chest/gauntlets should I go with?
The Slate Grey seems to match the boots the best, but the blue cape on the original coloring is kinda nice. Metallic Silver is also cool for max shine, but I'm not sure if it fits.

Neither of them have set in stone rotations.
Other DPS have some cut and dry situations where they can gun for a DPS increase, like saving a Geirskogul for an upcoming AoE situation on DRG, or not applying a ToD/Mutilate depending on how fast a target dies.
BRD is free-form but it's full of miniscule DPS increases that you have to take advantage of, such as clipping dots under TA, clipping them under buffs, clipping the GCD for procs, holding Straighter Shot for Empyreal Arrow, Feint, etc.
SMN also has similar autism to it that you kind of have to figure out on your own, and pay attention to take advantage of. Dumping mana on R3 and doing dot math to know how long before a downtime you shouldn't bother reapplying them.
The key idea is the lack of a set rotation, which makes them easy to play, but they also happen to have very minute things that demand attention.
