A new look and design from the ground up is needed to appeal to a wider audience. Valve is a business, they want to make money.
You don't matter, noone cares if you were loyal to Dota since WC3, that is irrelevant. You aren't giving valve money, you aren't buying flashy cosmetics that break the aesthetics of the game, you aren't buying the obvious cash grabs like siractionslacks announcer pack or rick and morty announcer pack. You are a leech, you play the game and never give back. New players won't have that sense of attachment to the game, they will view it as just some other league game but with free champions.
