also turning the wheel feels too slow at higher speeds. using keyboard & mouse

can adjust steering in the settings, but I still found it performed like shit. not as bad as before, but it's still a messy piece of crap to drive.

at first when the police would always stop you on your way to the shop, if you didn't park to the right of the officer, techno viking would kill you whenever he got a chance.

yeah, I think a real Datsun cockpit and some hydraulics would be better, it would be doable to turn all the real parts into a controller with a few switches and potentiometers, a micro controller and some usb magic.

If you wanted to realistically simulate mortality and hospitalization it would probably be easiest to build your sim pit inside a roadworthy datsun, so when you go off the road or hit someone in-game that would happen in real life as well.

it's really hard to get 2nd and 3rd once you are fast enough to take 1st every time.

What's rough is that there's like a 45 second difference between 1st place between races, so if you dog it a bit for an acheivo there's a decent chance you get 8th with what would have been a second place time in the last rally you did.

Hopefully he'll make the times a little more consistent and a little more spread out in the future, like 1st normally gets 5:20-5:35, 2nd normally gets 5:35-5:50, and third gets 5:50-6:05, with the rest coming in wherever. It's crazy right now that there's often only a couple seconds between first and fourth. Maybe "realistic", but not fun.

there should be like regional champions joining in every 2nd-3rd weekend, then you'd need below 5:10 to win.

Or something like once you win you become the local champion and people will travel to challenge and race you from all over finland, then you can make a bet before racing every weekend. and if you don't race them, fleetari will call you and call you a faggot.

Yeah I've hit 5:32 more than once. I've been getting a lot better from driving around, I'll post some screenshots later and maybe a super fast time. I want to get some rallies in before the game updates so I don't have to miss a week because I wouldn't be able to pass inspection.

It's a gauge and has a shift light. So you can put the clock back in the Satsuma, and not need to stare at the tach while driving.

I've experimented with setting the gear box ratio to very low numbers using the editor. Usually ends with me having the windshield explode in my face. Anyone tried setting the ratio to an absurdly high value to accelerate like sanic?

The highest value ratio is great, imo. It's just a bit more top speed than I need for the rally.

Presumably he was holding the e-brake (too hard) and didn't realize that the tires weren't spinning; whether it was him on the clutch or an automatic probably isn't super important.

I was thinking clutch at first as well, but reasoned even a dumbass would've either dumped it and stalled/ran off the road or tried something else rather than just holding it there

Real life super cars frequently have a "safe mode" that's on by default. You can enable "sport mode" to go fast (I assume it's some sort of electronic limiter, names obviously differ by car). GTA just had casualized physics and a global 140mph top speed for the same reason.

Most, if not all cars have a speed governor/limiter and have to be mod/chipped to "unlock" full speed/performance. I think its there to protect engine from damage.

GTA online has reduced speed for netcode reasons i do believe. The game can be moded to have realistic speeds

new corvettes have something for 1st gear which helps keep traction, i suppose it probably locks the diff and limits power so you can [STEP ON THE GAS] without losing control; once in second gear they go into the ditch because these people are just holding their foot down without thinking (and probably mashing the brake once it starts sliding out).
