I want to get locked in an airtight school and fix her with hope. One night, she silently sneaks over to the kitchen. A shining sliver of a blade extends from her clenched fist when she walks into my room. But her hand stops, centimeters away from my chest, and begins to shake violently. Something is wrong. Utopia is what one would call the perfect world. In that world you would not know the concept of despair which would prevent bloodshed and violence between different types of despair born from conflicting opinions and viewpoints. That in itself also connects to maintaining hope to fulfill those causes that lead to despair. So hope in itself is nothing more than a white lie to cover up the outbreak of despair that comes from it. Each person has a different perspective on hope so unification would be seen as impossible and that makes way for despair when those goals aren't met meaning a war outbreak.

What Utopia does is wipe out the need for Hope hence eliminating the chance of Despair. All would be one under Utopia. No longer will opinions clash or objectives differ. Mind, matter, philosophy etc will all be one under Utopia. In a brand new world.

In order for humans to step forward towards a world of peace and dreams, a world without hope or despair, a world without lies turned to violence turned to deaths, in order to head towards this goal, they must cast away those foolish thoughts of "reality" that exists in this current world. It's irrelevant.

So what I think is that there's something more going on - a bigger mystery - and Kaede is doing a simulation of the trials over and over again to arrive at a greater truth than simply "Whodunnit?"

No one from the DR2 cast died and AI Chiaki is still alive in Izuru. UDG didn't have anyone important to the plot die either. And in DR3 Kodaka couldn't commit to killing Persona and everyone else who died was fodder because they didn't have time to really develop the cast in meaningful way. Kodaka hasn't killed a meaningful character since DR1.
