Most of the problems came from dry rot on basically everything rubber.
Oh, and the news trans i put in it had bad synchros too, so. I just fucking sold it after that. I was fed up.
That said, id absolutely pick up another 5th or 6th gen with a 2.2

Mine's a 1.6 as well. Transmission and engine have held up fine thankfully. Biggest reason I hate the 4AFE is because it makes swapping to a 3SGE/3SGTE that much harder, and I've been told that the 4AGE is pretty much useless due to the Celica's weight.

Still, for a basic commuter/back up car, I'd pick the 1.6 due to it's simplicity and powertrain compatibility with the Corolla again if I had to.

There's currently a pretty clean GT for sale near me a hair under 3k. Shame I don't have that kind of money right now and need a house/truck/work-van over another Celica right now.

If youre into MPGs you can swap in the 1nzfe from a yaris.
Aluminum block so it will lighten up the celica.
Would see a nice bump in MPG. Same HP as a 4afe tho.

The amount of work with getting the mounts to work and figuring out all the wiring wouldn't really be worth it.

A 4AGE can be swapped with the 4AFE relatively easy, while the 3SGE/3SGTE can be swapped with the 5SFE from the GT/GT-S as they also share mounts.

If I were to go through with all the work to put in a completely different engine, especially a more modern one, I'd get a 2ZZ-GE or something.

Anyways, it's all moot at this point. I need space. I'd love nothing more than to have a yard full of Celica's to wrench on and franken-with but they're actually getting to the point where they're scarce.

The mounts and trans is the same tho...
