When did manufacturers stop being proud of their engines?

when did manufacturers stop being proud of their engines?

will the cancer of plastic covers ever end?

wow just like magic

...

>noise reduction?
>keep an engine warm after you turn it off for as long as possible?
>drivers that have no idea how an engine works or where it is?

>Lexus
I would be ashamed too

You know there's probably 30 hidden clips that break off when you pull the cover off

It's fire reduction dipshit

Make Engines Great Again

It's not a GM though.

19 of witch trigger the engine light

I dont see why people care

like when I showed my mom the engine bay on my Mazda she laughed and said that it looked weird

this isnt the old days where you have to adjust something on your engine everytime you get gas ffs

thats because you didn't read the manual

Who gives a shit, its a fucking Lexus, ill never have to open the bonnet anyway.

>Make Engines Great Again

Please Trump bring back carburetors

he said great not

"lets make engines go back in time by 50 years and be objectively worse"

CIA nigger

He's right though. Carbonated engines are trash.

only when it comes to fuel consumption / smog

carbs rock

i've heard that some manufacturers are making motors without a way to check oil, so you just have to do a full oil change.

is this true, or complete bullshit made up by people?

Toss that shit in the dumpster. Enjoy your gas-guzzling, mechanical nightmares.

hahahaha

>carbonated

i havent heard that, but i do know they started making trannies as sealed systems so you can't do anything with the fluid, honestly wouldnt be suprised tho if they did something with the oil too

>tfw you use screws and a length of wire to rig the trottle on your carb
>tfw you can do 85 now it you keep it wide open
>in your fucking shitbox
>still sounds good
>you don't have any gutteral sounds from the throat of your engine
>blasts fire the taco bell parking lot when you try to figure out wtf is wrong

Nah. Have you seen the engine under that? Not having to make it look pretty anymore makes engineering them easier, and less expensive.

Engine covers block noise, and are also part of pedestrian safety.

my parents Mercedes is like this. no dipstick just a dash light, though never seen the dash light

easy to tune, easy to rebuild
adjust mixture with a $2 screw driver instead of a $800 ECU tuning program.
want more power bigger carb / manifold

Well. Some BMWs dont come with dipsticks anymore.

You can make them look nice.

carbs are shit for everything

or run stock

What do you even need the hood for if you have a cover like that?

carbs are a best

this
the only reason they left gaps in there is so the engine could move

best at being worse than EFI

Nobody said EFI was wrong

jesus fuck

oh god put it back

Most people don't want to know there's a big, complex gas powered air pump under there. These covers give them warm fuzzies that it's some sort of electric fusion thingy that runs on bunny farts.

Also, it deters weekend warriors from fucking with things they don't understand and getting their fingers snapped off.

When normies started being scared of wires and tubes.

Germans are retarded I guess.

FUCK YOU IT HAS ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL

The EPA actually gives a fuck about engine noise.

Because a hum/whine you can hear 10 feet away is RUINING AMERICA'S PEACEFUL WAY OF LIFE

Imagine having to undo 8 bolts to take off some plastic just to do standard shit that is explicitly stated in the manual like spark plug checks, jump a dead battery

I already have a motorcycle that demands shit like that, and the plastic is actually functional in day to day life

I'd rather have an extra 4db of valve noise and clicky injectors than more fucking plastic covers labeled "TAKE TO DEALER"

and this is why there are so many breaking/broken lexuses

My manufacturer is proud.

Carbs are only good if you are afraid that the government will assassinate you by remotely hacking the fuel injection system and make you crash in very hihg speedo

stops it from getting dirty also probably helps with cooling and stops dumbasses from touching the wrong thing

basically who gives a fuck

Carbs are great when you take them apart in your lap because what the fuck is this thing and then you put it back together better than it was before and your car goes faster.

That's the magic of carbs.

the classic carbs make more power meme

you'd thinkt this would have died with boomers, but it's nice to see the young generation of ricers picking it back up

You don't need a dipstick to check or change your oil..

Well carbs are just simpler and easier to work with. Not sure about reliability though.

I rolled into a state park once because I fouled my carb with a plastic ball.

The state retad said you can't fix your car here
I said OK hold on a sec I need to take piss don't worry about it.

And then I drove another few hundred miles. Although it did need a new fuel filter toward the end of my journey.

>It's fire reduction dipshit
No. No its not. I worked for Toyota/Lexus dealership. It's called the NVH system (noise vibrational harshness) it's noise reduction. That is all. With Lexus they go the extra mile and add more but it's mainly done to add an extra level of "perceived refinement" 95percent of Lexus owners didn't even top off their own wiper fluid, let alone know HOW to do it. The other 5 percent know how but that sort of task is beneath them and best left to Lexus techs.
The whole "fire prevention" shit people think is under the hood is some weird old wives tale left over from the uber crooked car salesmen of decades past. That "blanket" on the underside of the hood IS NOT to put out engine fires. Engine fire are no where near common enough to require a fire blanket built into the hood. It's MAIN function is to reduce engine heat on the hood itself so as not to cause premature failure of the paint/clearcoat from constant high temps. The noise cancellation and related are all secondary.
If a car salesman ever trys to tell/sell you on under hood stuff being fire suppressant, call his dumbass out on it.

No worries man. I just asked "what's this hanging ragged thing?"

>oh i don't know looks okie dokie to me i guess
>also buy it

I just spent 100k on a Lexus hybrid, yes topping up washer fluid is beneath me. Change it for free or put me in touch with your supervisor.

Fuck yes cunt.
>TFW your LS3 stands out like a sore thumb in your engine bay but still looks beautiful.
>TFW instead of a little V8 badge they put a power graph on a nice plaque for you.
Why is the v8 dying Veeky Forums?

>no dipstick
>your engine starts to consume a bit of oil or leak
>you kill it after a few weeks because the dash light only comes in when oil pressure is 0.4 bars, which is less than half minimum oil level

>you measure oil in bars
>you hate your best friend this much
>you don't look forward to changing the oil
>you probably missed the last interval
>you don't actually like changing the oil
>you're a tranny

Thingsthatactuallyhappen

They have digital dipsticks on the dash or in the information menus you dumbass

do I have to press that i agree each time?

Oil pressure you retard
Your oil light will only come in when oil PRESSURE is low, it does not directly measure the volume of oil in your carter
>manufacturer recommends 20k km between oil changes

Good thing all BMWs and Mercedes have digital dipsticks since 1994.

SAVAGE

>tfw oil light comes on all the time when you try to wire up you knock sensor
OY GAY YOUR OIL LIGHT
yeah I know my oil light
ever change your own oil btw?

So who's going to drive them?

Not sticking picture of hamster wheel on plastic cover.

My car has both a dipstick and a 'quart low' light.

>and this is why there are so many breaking/broken lexuses
[citation needed]

>mfw I haven't even seen inside the engine bay on my 2016 yet

Feels good having a new car with free oil changes.

But the engine hasn't been designed to be looked at without the cover, so it always looks shit underneath.
On the upside it keeps engine bits clean

I know newer Audi's have electronic dipsticks. You check the oil level in the infotainment system inside the car. However this requires a few basic criteria to be met, like a warm engine. So go fuck yourself if you want to check if you actually have oil when starting up a car with a known leak or on a cold day.

But I've also seen these engines still have the dipstick hole, it's just not used by an actual dipstick. Perhaps you could buy some VAG special tool dipstick.

...

...

Ebin

Well, they completely shielded off the entire engine bay, I doubt they are going to give you info on how to remove those panels

You mean the oil pressure light?
You do know that when this comes on, the engine is already done for, right?

looks like a bunch of snakes in there

Mate how do you change your battery when its hidden under the firewall like that?

Mines not too bad is it ?

My Lexus has all those covering bits. Would it reduce performance/heat/cooling capability if I removed them?

You take it to the official dealer so they can charge you 6 gorillion dollars labour costs.

its just for athetics. if it bothers you: remove them. also stops cars engine from overheating due to not being able to diispate the heat effectively.

>being this wrong
>also having the spelling of a 5th grader

>i've heard that some manufacturers are making motors without a way to check oil, so you just have to do a full oil change.

Where is this "I heard that" source? You heard it in your head as you made up the question?

Automatic transmissions still allow checking of the fluid, but the check location was moved to be inconvenient to the common consumer as there was no real need with modern transmissions to be serviced except at the recommended service point many many miles into the future. Having a dipstick easily available would mean dust, moisture, or even inappropriate or too much fluid would be added to the transmission by careless consumers. Careless people are probably a greater threat than the modern sealed automatic transmission running out of fluid. So keep that fluid check location in an obscure place Mr Manufacturer! That was a good decision to avoid the most common failure point for sealed transmissions - the careless consumer.

terry please

>how do you change your battery when its hidden under the firewall like that?
Not that guy, but changing the batteries in my car is a semi-big deal. Both the computer and the security system have to be reset to talk to each other. After the car's main electronics and security allows the car to be started and door locks to be used properly, the entertainment system then needs to be synched up or else it will not work. The car also has two batteries. One is under the hood (starter, engine, main systems) and the other is in the trunk (lights, systems, pumps, electronics, etc).

There's nothing more "I am a car enthusiast, look at how different and cool and custom my car is!" than painting your fucking engine cover of your boring fucking rental car

No covers here but not that pretty to look at either

worked so well in this case

who hurt you?

Just weld the hood shut if you're going to make shit like that

The criteria for Audi is actually for the engine to be at full operating temperature, with the hood and driver door open. Only way it will be completely accurate. You can buy a special tool for the adjustable dipstick, but have fun finding the right numbers to adjust to without ELSA pro or Audi ServiceNet.

Hi Satan!

Satan will take care of whoever hurt you.

It really does look great.

>thinking that a plastic engine bay cover acts as a fucking heatsink

If it makes you feel any better, laptops have been doing this for at least a decade. There is some consumer hp shit that has 40 screws (no I am not kidding) connecting the keyboard to the rest of the housing. They also use
>glue
on $4,000 laptops now

meanwhile business laptops have always 6 screws holding in 90% of the parts, this isn't some extreme technology, it's just to discourage people from trying to DIY

>Wanting to show off your Lexus engine
kek

Being someone who works in computer repair, I hate it when new laptops come in wanting a fan replacement or hard drive swap.
It takes me forever since I have to follow an Ifixit guide. It's not fun.

>But it's for sound dampening
Put it on the underside of the hood, dingus.

>Open hood
>Open 2nd plastic hood
Kek

Fuck all this cramped rats nest looking or plastic covered bullshit, this is one of the reasons I love old cars/trucks, not because I'm incapable of doing the work, but because it just makes things more difficult for home mechanics.

you really don't want to see what's underneath

>it keeps engine bits clean
It doesn't do anything more than the hood already does. Plus, most dirt comes up from underneath.

carbs are inferior and inconsistent for fuel delivery compared to injection
