My area's premium is mostly 91. I found a couple gas stations selling 93.
Any real reason to go out of my way to fill up with 93 over filling up with 91?
Car calls for "Premium Gasoline" but it doesn't specify octane rating.
Is there *any* benefit to 93 over 91?
Isaac Anderson
But user the manual will tell you the octane required for your car. the only reason to pick 93 over 91 is the car is tuned to run on 93 and not 91.

Euro's use a different octane rating system, dumbfag.
Does it knock under heavy loads? If not, then there's no reason to go to a higher octane rating.

Its 97 everywhere here, why do americans have such shit gas?
Andrew Torres
european here, the cheapest gas is 97 octane lmao, you americans are being ripped off if 93 is your premium lmao
97 octane burns so much better, more energy in the fuel i find 93 doesnt even ignite properly

97, that's cute. Nothing is stopping me from going to the VP supplier down the street and running this delicious leaded sex juice.

Are you at a "high" elevation? If so, 91 performs like 93 does at sea level.

Ontarian here. My Mazdaspeed6 owners manual says the following:
>This vehicle is designed to use 93 [ (R+M)/2 method] (98RON) or higher gasoline for best performance. If 93 [ (R+M)/2 method] (98RON) is not available, 91 or 92 [ (R+M)/2 method] (96 or 97RON) gasoline can be used. In case 91 or 92 [ (R+M)/2 method] (96 or 97RON) is not available, gasoline as low as 87 [ (R+M)/2method] (91RON) can be used temporarily for emergency purposes. Use of gasoline lower than 93 [ (R+M)/2 method] (98RON) can decrease performance during its use.
It idles like an earthquake on 91 but runs silky smooth on 94 which is available here at certain Petro-Canada stations. I also think there's Esso stations farther up north that have actual 93 but I've never seen one in person.

My car's manual says to literally tow it to a dealership if you accidentally put anything but 93 in it.
I'd post a picture of that page of the manual but FUNNY ENOUGH it's half disassembled at a dealership right now.
>timing chain tensioner snaps, somehow doesn't seppuku a valve >replace entire timing system under warranty >4000 miles later, camshaft sensors shit the bed >barely runs, cold starts die at stop signs >takes 3 days to diagnose >3 more days to get the part
>muh turbo 15 minutes before that warranty is out, I'm selling that thing and buying a 40 year old BMW.
John Martinez
Octanenis not poWer.
Octane is a measure of the amount of anti knock additives added to fuel To raise the self combustion pressure.
High compression ratio requires higher octane so it does not combust before the spark plug fires.
look up the comp ratio of your engine and figure it out for yourself.
Higher octane burns slower. it does not burn cleaner or remove dirt or any of the magical shit they claim.
Most people will see worse fuel economy for using higher octane.

>What is the Mazdaspeed 6
The Mazdaspeed 6 is entirely different from the Mazda 6. It was only made for two years, and had the 2.3L MZR and AWD.
Nolan Rivera
Every single one of Japanese turbo sportcars needs 98ron. 95 will detonate with the turbine spinning if the ECU doesn't retard the timing. But some of the western versions have remapped ECU, like Australian S15 works on 95 (and it has less hp).

RON vs AKI
Cameron Barnes
yes ur engine can run 2 octaves higher on 93 octane

Not getting your gas at the marina. Enjoy your ethanol and shitty fuel economy.
