Play HIP, ck2+ is trash.

HIP has a nicer map, no Charlie start or Schism chain, and more historical autism.
CKII+ has a charlie start and schism chain, a better-than-vanilla-but-not-as-good-as-SWMH map, and is more gameplay orientated. Both of them are good vanilla+ options so really just choose one and try the other one later and decide which one you like better.

It probably wasn't a joke. Reapers Due was a pretty decent DLC, but it did add even more supernatural shit like immortality. I wouldn't be surprised if Paradux started adding more and more supernatural shit for the remaining CK2 DLC, as I doubt they will ever add theocracies and I'm sure Paradux isn't retarded enough to listen to r*ddit and add China, which doesn't leave much to expand upon for future DLC besides supernatural stuff.
