I've noticed that the quality of my draft matters far less than the luck of draws. I had a good sword deck with two otomemes and a decent curve. 3-2, because I bricked while the opponents got perfect openings in two games.
After that, I drafted another sword deck, which was by far the worst deck I have ever drafted for sword. 3-2.

The new cards are honestly going to be a fraction of the cards you need to make decks, except maybe in the case of aggro rune since there's a lot of new cards there.
Doing arena runs to build up your standard collection is pretty much the best way to spend your gold if you just started playing. Though I guess the starter deck deals are good as well now.
