Absolutely terrible, you're right. Plus having driven both Gen SCs, they made it so much worse everywhere... somehow less comfortable and less sporty. Honestly Lexus shit the bed so hard with all their early-mid 2000 redesigns (except the LS430, which was worthy of the title. LS460 a shit though).

Really bad but not as bad as Lexus, if only because the 5 series stayed good mechanically and was still desirable in isolation. E39s are so incredibly handsome, it was an impossible act to follow.

Not a bad redesign, just a car that was always shit.

I didn't even like the 3rd gen vs the 2nd gen but at least they got a manual option and stopped making autos that ate themselves every 70k miles.

I really, really want to like the last-gen GTS but I would 100% take a clean Corolla XRS of the same year over it. They really, really did a terrible job on the last Celicas - weird considering almost all their designs from that period have aged well I feel.
