Thats not the same as E:D/NMS though. There was no comb over.
Doing proc gen for the broad strokes and fine details by hand is entirely different
Jace Miller
Non-shitty Vanguard when?
Dominic Scott
besides performance, what are people's complaints with the vanguard? I dont really see any major differences between in game and concept art besides the front intakes.
Aiden Cox
>I dont really see any major differences between in game and concept art youtube.com/watch?v=vhiaGAnOalA The whole thing is different. Instead of a ship with its own character it's just a fat whale that consists entirely of Retaliator parts with a Sabre cockpit strapped to it. >inb4 'manufacturer assets should be reused' Yes, but not to the degree that a ship has no unique parts.
Plus, once people realized that it can't really kill bigger ships due to a lack of meaningful weapons and it can't kill smaller ships because it's slow as fuck and has a giant hitbox they somehow started defending it with "b-but it has long range", apparently without realizing that it will have to fight whatever short-range fighters your target has with it. But then again, that's performance. But also design, somewhat.
David Nelson
>that front profile fugg what happened desu though, if they made it dual s3 on the top turret, once turrets are fixed I could see it having more viability, and the inlaid gun buff someone mentioned a few threads ago made it sound a bit more threatening.
Adam Brown
6th for goon counter failing horribly with 2.6 release, will have gotten bored of star citizen in a month or two.
Julian Watson
>the inlaid gun buff someone mentioned a few threads ago made it sound a bit more threatening. The thing is, using a gimbaled S4 on the nose mount is stupid because the quad S2s are fixed and there's no S5 that has a projectile speed that allows you to have unified pips. Unless they adjust either some S5 gun or the nose guns to allow that you're kinda fucked. And even then there would only be that single viable loadout.
Jordan Anderson
I don't understand why bring this up. We're talking about space sims, not elder scrolls.
Jace Richardson
>I dont understand why you would bring up the process of creating large worlds to play on within a discussion about creating large worlds to play on
user please. ED and NMS developers were completely incompetent and just used YOU CAN EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE as a way to sucker in idiots.
100-something worlds that are procedurally generated and then touched up by designers and artists is infinitely more manageable than shitting out millions of randomly generated clusterfucks.
Ian Cruz
>not elder scrolls. this
and elderscrolls is pure generic garbage
Blake Clark
Holy shit did this general get overrun by teenagers in the last 24 hours?
Do you guys have some kind of mental retardation that makes you incapable of understanding that game design is a process applicable to many games and not just one specific series?
Neck yourselves.
Jackson Ortiz
I have 140 hours into my latest X3:TC run, and cumulatively have around 600. Can anyone give me some advice and tell me if Elite: Dangerous is worth the 20 bucks it's going for on Steam?
I have avoided pretty much all the news about this game, all I know is that it has spaceships in it, and that it supports vr (not that I own such a device)
Some reviews on Steam say it lacks content and the missions suck (kinda like X3), but they also say they've managed to occupy themselves for 800 hours.
Should I not bother with it? If I should, is the DLC worth it and/or necessary, like CiV? Also, it says it can play as an MMO, how's that work? I'll appreciate any info you guys can give me.
Matthew Jackson
>Avoided all the news
Stop right now. Watch gameplay videos, read steam reviews, especially negative ones that are reasonable.
Leo Thomas
Oh also, the game is not an MMO. You can go single player mode at the touch of a button. They may as well have removed any player interaction, because what is there is mediocre. The people that have occupied themselves for 800 hours are either people like me who wanted to get a specific ship and it literally took that long to get it, or the autists who can tolerate flying in a straight line for 12 hours a day.
Elijah Cook
>100-something worlds that are procedurally generated and then touched up by designers and artists is infinitely more fun than shitting out millions of randomly generated clusterfucks. ftfy
Isaac Gray
So... when are they seeing fit as a good time to mention their sudden, completely non-officially announced affiliation with amazon's lumberyard engine?
2.6 clearly isnt running on it, and hopefully 3.0 is, with all of amazons near infinite server hosting - but i mean they didnt see fit to mention this to anyone in some kind of video? it's kind of an important game dev topic when you move your project of 3 years over to another compatible engine
Christopher White
They've already announced it you dip. And they've already integrated it. 2.6 is running on it. Why do you think one of the splash screens says in big letters "Lumberyard"?
Nolan Powell
For people who don't understand just how shitty a bastardization of a concept design they made the Vanguard youtube.com/watch?v=vhiaGAnOalA
Benjamin Roberts
They probably kept it a secret until it was finished in order to keep people from thinking they're massively jumping the shark and that they were going through some sort of internal meltdown. If they'd announced this switch before it was finished, there likely would have been tons of hysteria within the community and detractors would have gone wild. Either way, the "story" has already been picked up and sensationalized by clickbait sites ("BREAKING: STAR CITIZEN MASSIVE ENGINE CHANGE 4 YEARS IN") so maybe their strategy already backfired.
I'm not saying it was a good thing they kept it a secret and I'm certainly not trying to be a CIG apologist but that's just my thinking behind their logic.
Plus it wasn't even a massive change in the first place.
Nathan Moore
You do realize they've been trading tech with other CryEngine forks for years right?
Grayson Barnes
i know it's not a massive change but the fact that almost nobody cared about the sudden lumberyard logo on their launcher confused me. i already knew it was a positive thing that will make 3.0 a reality.
I expected alot more rumblings about what it means for the game, and at least some kind of word from chris roberts regarding the transition and what it means for potential MASSIVE network related improvements to the game
it seems like something they'd be eager to showcase and build hype for ahead of time
Samuel Allen
Too long to copy paste
Daniel Rodriguez
>it seems like something they'd be eager to showcase and build hype for ahead of time
Not when the media that covers videogames are desperate to make clickbait trash screeching STAR CITIZEN HAS CHANGED ENGINES HAHA LOOK WE TOLD YOU SO.
Gaming media is extremely hostile to SC because it doesn't pay for ads and it's not affiliated with major game publishers. The fact it even exists and might succeed is a threat to the game industry at large.
Camden Hughes
God they really shit on the concept
Cooper Watson
>it seems like something they'd be eager to showcase and build hype for ahead of time
I speculate like their whole talks about having potential for "1000 player instances" in that special RTV WAS in regards to AWS but at that point maybe they were still finalizing a deal with Amazon or even still in the process of porting over to Lumberyard.
Ryan Robinson
THE ESCAPIST WAS RIGHT. APOLOGIZE!
Connor Thomas
thanks i somehow missed this letter.
Liam Allen
In hindsight I shouldn't have sold my F7A kit. I got $70 for it, but I really like the look of it.
Kevin Morris
Meh, this is Roberts basically saying that they couldn't figure out how to reasonably turn their version of cryengine into what he wanted within his timeframe but someone else did it for him.
It's not necessarily bad and could ultimately be a good move, but in the end it's starting to look like a bad case of DukeNukem forever syndrome, where they jumped engines every time a new one came out.
Levi Perry
Duke Nukem was developed like the town bike.
Jace Powell
Haven't played ED for ages, it used to be fun for a bit then got extremely samey and felt like there was nothing to work towards or do. Has this changed?
Daniel Murphy
It's a story that can be easily repeated with the creative types like Roberts in charge. At least the change is within the "same family". I'd only have reason to worry if he suddenly switched to Unreal engine or Unity.
Sebastian Robinson
Can I fly my carrack yet?
Can I get in and out of my ship in EVA yet?
Noah Harris
yes yes
Levi Richardson
Uh that's a no yes
Jack Evans
i've been rused
Jonathan Morgan
there's still no lean in FPS?
Robert Richardson
No, which is odd because it's listed in keybinds
Ayden Moore
q and e
Christopher Taylor
avenger cockpit is still retarded
why did I pay more for this gay penguin spaceship
Justin Rogers
Penguin fetish I hope, that's the only acceptable reason for buying an Avenger
Daniel Johnson
FPS needs a stamina bar desu
Andrew Parker
Actually, since that one user brought up leaning, I wonder if that will drastically change the way the game is played
James Nelson
it also needs some way of seeing grenades and medkits
It's pretty evident this is just Arma 3 in space. Why not save the time and just play Arma?
>Same quests >Same looting system >Same wobbly animations in 3rd person >Same first person animations incl combat gameplay >Wast areas with nothing >Waypoint simulator >Same flying system >Same driving system >Same mount system >Same squad system (possibly)
Unless there's actual a common enemy, a la Reapers from Mass Effect, to keep you occupied there won't be much to do.
Hell, my friends will prob just develop some network based cheat and unlock everything within 1 week after release and then quit. That's how Arma 3 servers die, people hoard stuff after long quests/missions and then quit as there's nothing much to do with it except do some social raiding.
Has Roberts actually commented on the end goal or did he just say "Build your empire!"
Jonathan Gray
You already said it.
>a common enemy
I think the Tev in Squadron 42, the single player campaign, and the Vanduul + Pirates will be the main factions you will contend with. They'll probably add in missions that involve different groups and they'll randomly become the enemies/ Allies as the story dictates.
Jose Wright
Also, please note that Star Citizen seems perfect for Star Fox Assault type campaigns.
It's easy enough to make some CG scenes involving some Aliumz/ Monsters attacking a planet, tasking players with gathering resources for the fight because the UEE can't, thhen fighting for some objective.
A simple, repeatable campaign would consist of:
1. Fight in space ship toward planet 2. Fight in ship on planet 3. Maybe some vehicle/train fight 4. On foot battle 5. Repeat in reverse order.
It seems possible that you could have a mission that ends with you inside an open Caterpillar launching rockets at the Space Bug Queen.
Caleb Martin
isn't that game for furries tho
Alexander Adams
I was hoping something in 2.6 would fix this, but it didn't. Anyone have experience with this?
Jonathan Foster
Yes, I had that issue. It just went away after some time.
Jacob Perez
>autism
Carson Baker
>inhabits a dead general for years >calls others autists k
Robert Young
I don't get why people bitch about arma 3 so much. The FPS controls are great. It has leaning and headlook. Can't say that about SC so far.
of course you have to find a server group to play actual missions on
Oliver Lee
Not bitching about Arma but considering how Arma has no goal and is primarily a milsim for military tutors, Star citizen should not follow the same path for gods sake.
Unless there's some BIG threat and goal, don't expect much of the playerbase staying.
Jack Peterson
Any fix for the game refusing to launch? It has the splash screen with the new image (with Lumberyard) then crashes. Is this a common thing at the moment?
Aiden Robinson
it's an MMO buddy. There's going to be procedural missions and pirates and bad dudes to kill forever. Plus world events and player guilds.
I wish the combat were more like arma desu. Star Marine feels more casual than halo with a huge radar and giant icons whenever someone is on your screen. I didn't like the ez mode quest markers in the demo either
Josiah Reed
>being a nigger why do you keep cominh to these threads? kys
Isaiah Reed
>Unless there's some BIG threat and goal
Are you purposely ignoring ?
Joseph Powell
got a rift yesterday i can finally live out my dream of being a cute girl in a space ship the female pilot has big boobs btw lads
Adam Hughes
Class 3 Multi-cannons are so sexy.
Leo Anderson
bind freelook to alt same effect, no shit rift and empty wallet
David Nguyen
Hello, Erectile: Dysfunction refugee!
Parker Diaz
freelook doesn't let you look down as far the rift is nice anyway, its not something i'm going to use constantly but elite with a rift is slightly less mediocre
Nathaniel Adams

damn that's kinda cool. I've looked at boobs in VR but never been a big boobed girl before
William Walker
@163652662 keep crying nigger
Zachary Myers
>Arma 3 dummy tier
Oh just a shitposter. Kek, I took you seriously for a moment.
Isaiah Johnson
Grenades just need to not be black/grey. It doesn't need an indicator, just make them orange or yellow or something so they stand out a bit from the environment.
Also Star Marine needs a "Free FPS" mode like Free Flight in Arena Commander that lets you jump into the level and fuck around...
Jordan Lee
does your movement affect the grenade trajectory at all?
the animation feels really slow or I can't see it properly
Ayden Wright
@163652856 keep crying bitch nigger
Angel Sanchez
>fails to accomplish anything in life >makes retarded assumptions >blurts out "samefagger" to everyone explaining rationally why he has to kill himself.
oh boy
William Hall
@163653261 you wanna fight?
Nathan Lopez
That's what I thought, don't come back pussy
Logan Kelly
The grenade trajectory is beholden to space wizardry and nothing else, I can never anticipate where my grenade will land from one throw to the next. I'm surprised it hasn't ever just gone straight up my ass
Angel Davis
So what's the verdict on HOTAS for Star Citizen?
I'm considering putting a little money towards one, but my concern is gimbal weapons. A stick would obviously be better for maneuvering, but is there any device which gives me the same precision for accurate gimbal shooting as a mouse does?
Xavier Walker
the net code fucks up grenade throws sometimes and it comes out late. Also i think have wounded arms gimps you ability to throw.
Dominic Moore
>falling for the space steering wheel meme
just use mouse and keyboard, don't get tricked into buying extraneous peripherals
Jacob Cruz
this desu familia
Nathaniel Cook
i really wish they'd add war thunder's mouse aim so i can be a true crutch ace
Landon Parker
If you're not doing well with the current mouse aiming you need to actually play the fucking game instead of shoving the mouse up your asshole and squeezing to turn.
Christian Allen
So aimbots already in SM eh?
I like seeing people able to effortlessly bypass the 6 second TTK with near instant kills. I also enjoy the 20 FPS on a 4690 and Fury
Jason Brown
>So aimbots already in SM eh?
Maybe you just suck?
Samuel Jackson
>actually undocking lol fag, I bet you fly an unpolished aurora
Chase Lee
>5 seconds of constant fire hitting only their upper chest doesnt kill them >but this random retard can effortlessly kill everyone in the server in just 2 seconds tops
Zachary Hall
Yeah, they can be fun but when you evidently have to get out of the cockpit they just get in the way and complicate things.
I spent ~150 on a hotas, it was uncomfortable to use on the desk. So I spent ~250 on a new chair and mounting hardware so I could attach them to the chair at wrist level. It works great but now when they are attached to the chair I cant skoot the chair far enough forward to use my mouse and keyboard comfortably. So my option are; keep a shit tier game pad in my lap for first person, take the hotas off and on every time I go between ship and first person, or just leave then off and fly with the mouse, which is what I do most of the time. So now I am considering more hardware so I can attach desk like wing surfaces to the chair and spend more money on another mouse and one of those things in the pic all attached to the god damn hotas chair. It sucks but I am already in too deep, its only a mater of time until I take the next plunge. So yeah don't do what I did.
Grayson Morales
seconds of constant fire hitting only their upper chest doesnt kill them
Like I said. Maybe you just suck.
Christian Thompson
>idiots are already complaining about leet haxxors 360noscoping them
Wow, it's almost like this is a real game.
Julian Powell
I normally dont miss as long as my FPS doesnt decide to tank into the mid teens.
But i refuse to believe 3 days playing at max of 30 FPS was enough for someone to develop near aimbot levels of legit skill
Ryder Howard
>max of 30 FPS I've been sitting at 50-70, what are you fucking on about mate? Sounds like you're just a salty dad who's shit at FPS games :/
Cameron Hernandez
>max of 30 FPS
Wot?
Carson Edwards
Well 30 FPS is apparently all a 4690k a Fury Nitro and 16 GB of 2133mhz ram is good for in SM.
Christopher Torres

970, 4770k, 16GB and I get 70 fps. Maybe get rid of that adware caused by all your gay porn torrenting?
