no, if the crates are in a vehicle at the pickup location, that vehicle won't respond properly to the cargobob hook. It won't hook onto the top; the one time I tried, it hooked onto the bottom instead and then failed to lift it, causing the chopper to go nuts. I managed to detach and get out, then as I was driving away in the crate vehicle, the cargobob glitched out and somersaulted through the air before crashing and exploding.

You don't. But not every plane mission has the helicopters so start doing it and if helos spawn just hit find new session. It's only a 3 crate hit for quitting out
