Okay, so Fou uses hundreds of years of accumulated magical energy to resurrect Mashu (a feat that even true magic can't perform). But also mentions within the Time Temple death doesn't really count anyway. Since Fou hasn't completely matured yet, he can only give Mashu the lifespan of an "average" human. After which he'll come just a weird, normal little animal without any of his current wisdom or abilities.
