Radar Detectors

Id ask /g/ but you guys obviously go out more.

Im looking for an inexpensive radar detector and found this one
>amazon.com/Cobra-SPX-6600-15-Band-Radar-Detector/dp/B01DPYOSHS/

Looks like bullshit to me though. Those reviews just seem odd.

What are you guys using?

it's called situational awareness. If you have it, you won't need a shitty radar detector.

There's no point in buying a cheap one.

I don't use one I just know where the cops like to set up around where I live. If you really want one spend the money on a nice one

>nothin personnel, kid

>spend a couple of hundred on a radar detector
>yfw doesn't detect lidar

Waze is good for busy roads. Plus the turn by turn is James may.

Mah nigga! Waze is literally all you need on highways and interstates. And the TGT guys are a cool gimmick. Wish it was a permanent option but I think it's up soon.

Waze isn't helpful at all when not in peak travel hours where i'm at, but i'm in a semi-rural area.

when i've used it in cities it works fucking wonders, though

Uniden dfr6/7 is the cheapest you should buy if you actually want one that worth setting up. Keep in mind it's a radar detector not a cop detector btw. If the cops using lidar or just not actively clocking speed it won't tell you they're there. No replacement for paying attention but I love my new escort 360 for helping me be aware...usually well out of visual range when it warns me often over a mile even in town.

Don't buy a cheap radar detector, you will regret it. Spend a little more and get one with GPS. The Escort Max 2 is pretty inexpensive and has all the bells and whistles of a nicer Escort.

Explain how situational awareness can allow you to see a cop on the side of the road, a mile ahead of you at night on a desert highway with their lights off.

When I'm blasting by that nigga at 135mph. Good luck in that shitty chebby m8.

So you're a teenager who is just spouting bullshit? Understood.

If you run that route alot you should know where they like to set up. that is situational awareness. Knowing where you are pretty much free to speed and where not to.

And in the real world, cops don't always park in the same places, so that doesn't work any better than just guessing there is a cop parked around every bend in the road. I've driven the same routes to various places for years and there is literally only two I can think of that almost always have a cop parked at them. Most of them move around because of that very reason.

Yea i guess $200 isnt so bad.

Im not buying one because im a speeder, i dont drive fast. I need it to avoid cops when driving certain vehicles that for example dont have insurance, are old and beat up, etc...

I find these largely ineffective due to false alarms from various radars emitting from new cars (e.g. forward collision warning, lane assist, etc). Also cops use laser, which takes a fraction of a second to know your speed. These won't save you against that.

also cops are less likely to give you any mercy if they bust you WITH a radar detector.

valentine one. usually the top pick. if not then its an escort.... but never heard anything bad about valentine.

>And in the real world, cops don't always park in the same places

Confirmed for not ever dealing with cops. They don't give a fuck as long as they get paid, and they can meet their gay quotas while gobbling donuts and tagging millenials going 15 over.

they dont park in the exact same spot. they do park in the exact same stretch of highway though.

not to be that guy but I thought this was only for radar, and all police are switching over to laser? I live in a city so they'll likely have the funding

Most good ones also detect laser; some can also jam laser, but laser jammers are illegal in a lot of places.

yep

Whats the point of using laser jammers anyway? If a cop detects this they have even more reason to stop you.

If the jammer is legal, then it will buy you time to slow down. Even if the cop stops you, as long as he didn't ping you speeding, he can't do anything other than run your info and waste time. The point is to avoid the ticket.

>If you run that route alot you should know where they like to set up

But wha if *GASP* it just so happens that you have to drive through an unfamiliar route? what now then? are your lvl 61 Awareness skills going to help you too?

I have a cobra.
Don't buy a cobra.

If you're driving an unfamiliar route you should be driving slower.

WHat about this one?
>amazon.com/Cobra-Electronics-DSP9200BT-Radar-Detector/dp/B010B6EJQS/

I heard cobras have terrible filtering but from what i understand is that DSP comes from escort and it should have the same programming and filtering performance as any high end escort.

yeah you should also never ever drive over the speed limit amirite

>durrrr

Escort/Beltronics or bust. Get a current model. Max 2 has been on sale a lot lately at a fair price. If you need to drive in Canada/DC/Virginia then get the Escort Redline as it's immune to radar detector detectors.

Escort Live enabled models can help if you're driving at busier hours and someone ahead of you gets hit with LIDAR (he's fucked, but it will warn you as you get closer to the lidar source that LIDAR has been in use at a location recently, enabling you to slow down before you get hit).

Supplement with Waze for cop spotted reports.

Cobras are junk. They have shit horns and leak RF like crazy with poor performance.

cobra r shit

>Really want to buy cobra
>Everyone says cobra a shit

Confirmed for being an idiot thinking the small portion of anecdotal cop stories you have in your head are at all applicable to law enforcement officers around the world.

>They don't give a fuck as long as they get paid

Well yeah, but they can't nab locals for 3 over the limit if they sit in the same spot all day every day.

I live in a town with ~3,000 people, we have about 4 full time cops. You never know where they are or where they're going to be. The only exception is the night shift guy(s?), who is/are reliably at the one 24 hour gas station in town hanging out with the staties for what seems like the majority of their shift.

>Id ask /g/ but you guys obviously go out more
we may leave the house but surely you dont think we leave the inside of our car do you
