Hey I cleared the first deck haha. I'm not confident I'm going to survive the next stage.
Jaxson King
I have 10 soldiers left, 4 KIA, 1 wounded. Unlike the first level, I think I'm down to only close quarters which is going to be a nightmare, and I'm not familiar with ship map layouts at all. Time to put my best foot forward and hope for the best.

Never ever, flying is no longer a mechanic.
Nolan Hall
So apparently openxcom extended is experimenting with a function that takes a screenshot from your selected soldiers pov, though it only shows basic geometry right now. Kinda cool I guess. Maybe eventually it could look like Doom screenshots.
Ryan Price
Hey, recently i remebered a blast from the past, namely Soldiers of Anarchy and i just realized how much its like xcom: small team on commados like missions, base managment between missions, inventory fuckery during missions, with the added cherry of vheicles you can jum in and out of, capture if you are lucky. (Pic related is minutes before the final cutscene, but holy shit i cant even man 1/5 of these things, and normaly having 1-2 of these is gg), all in glorious russia area post apocaliptic tone (Entire world is fucked by a virus, 6 chumps hole up in a bunker then after 10 years reemerge to gauge the damage) with multiple endings and chocices taht change missions. It even has a scriptable mission editor.
After replaying it (with the patch that adds a pause function), aside from the atrocious pathfinding, it holds up pretty well still. I would recommed if you are looking for something xcom like.
TL:DR: Soldiers of Anarchy, anyone knows it?

Using explosives in the tight confines of this ship is dicey, but I don't have much of choice. I'm taking casualties, but I'm also been slaying away a good deal of ayys. Maybe I can make it. The good news is that it turns out that I can use the sonic canons I find on enemies since I researched it, even though I haven't researched the clip yet. Pretty useful since the pack a punch, but they don't have auto fire unfortunately. Probably should have gone for the rifle.

Welp, finished the boat. That was ugly. Good news is I got a live Tasoth squad leader which I believe means I can start working towards psionics. I lost at least 4 of those soldier to fatal wounds, so I definitely need the medkits.
Ayden Hernandez
Good month, though Austrailia is still crying. I have a base being built down there, but it's not finished yet. I am also getting very few mission, which is a bit worrying. I could use the extra cash and experience from some other missions that aren't cruise ship nightmares.
Ryder Watson

Matthew Stewart
Yet another cruise line terror ship. I gotta admit, I actually had fun in the last one (been awhile since I was actually scared I wouldn't be able to complete a mission), but I don't have the heart to do another taxing two stage mission again. I'll come back to it later. It is now month 5, and things are going pretty well I would say. Unfortunately, I discovered I knew to research a live terror unit before I can get psi, so I guess that is my next goal.

No, sadly, had to enable the console and type GiveTech mechanizedwarfare after i did gatecrasher. Or something like that. If you need more details I'll try harder to remember.

I started playing X-COM 2 for the first time.
>my soldiers in X-COM EW take a plasma shot to the face >walk it off and a day in the spa and they're fine
>my soldier in X-COM 2 graze their knee >gravely wounded (shaken) 29 days
At least it sorta solves the problem with my A Team just doing every mission because they're the best and I have no reason to build an entire B Team. But I tried the Vahlen mission and all I had was a scout with PTSD, Central and 3 rookies. It didn't snek so good. I think I'll leave that til later.
Vahlen deserved her painful death
Sebastian Jones
>implying Anyway, for most dlc missions it's recommended to at least have gauss just so you know.
Jeremiah Campbell
Maybe if she didn't want to get pooped out by a big snek she shouldn't have been playing with their genes.

Finished XCOM 2 for the first time today, that final fight is a clusterfuck.
It ended too soon, is there any long war-esque firefight and geoscape length enhancing mods?
Jacob Hernandez
M-Mods will fix it!

Guys, how do I stop playing XCOM? Every time I start a new game I'll get maybe 2-3 hours in before it loses my interest, and then later I'll contemplate starting another campaign. Do I have autism? Is it love?

pretty standard but I beat a night terror mission in openxcom with zero casualties.
Daniel Hall
Having EXALT swarming you early on and only having a couple of operatives (and the covert agent) surviving the mission.
Charles Robinson
Yea I played it a bit. Haven't sat down to finish it, but if you have some basic questions, I might be able to help. I know at least one user here finished it.
Well I just finished that TFTD cruise liner, that was pretty rough. But probably one of the toughest missions I completed was an early game superhuman landed battleship vs. sectoids. Just laser rifles and personal armor. I probably would go with that one considering I squad wiped in the same campaign on the same mission later on.
Nolan Wilson
Should I buy:
XCOM: Enemy Unknown
XCOM: Enemy Within
XCOM 2
or
XCOM: UFO Defense?
Grayson Russell
Get x-com and XCOM EW on sale for sure. If you enjoy XCOM EW, you will enjoy XCOM 2.
Evan Gomez
All of them. But Xcom2 is probably more bang for your buck since it has a modding community. I don't remember if Enemy Within is standalone or if it needs EU, if it's standalone get that too.
Juan Rogers
XCOM: Enemy Within (with unknown included)
then
XCOM: Enemy Within with long war
then
XCOM 2
Luis Perez
Do you know any good guides for just the first steps to take? I feel like there's probably some crucial stuff you have to do early game to avoid it biting you in the ass later.
Ryan Cox
Ehhh, I'm not that familiar, but if you go to ufopaedia.org there are three different beginners guides on the apocalypse page.
Andrew Hill
I need your guys advice. When I played Xcom I barely got far before I stopped. Then I jumped back on with mods(long war, skins, tweaks, etc). For Xcom 2, should I play it vanilla first? Or can I just get and install the mods I want to help customize the game to how I want it to be played?
tldr: Play xcom 2 vanilla or mods first?
Daniel Sullivan
I'd say mod the hell out of it, especially if you like customizing soldiers. Find quality of life stuff like Evac All and that free-rotation camera mod.
Additional Mission Types mod hurts like hell in my experience but can be fun if not stressful.
Benjamin Evans
I kind of wanted to get the ODST mod and weapons. Are there any gameplay mods that help enhance or build upon the concealment stuff? I kind of want to recreate the feeling of Halo:ODST where you are a weak soldier that has to sneak around the bigger and tougher enemies.
Also in general, what are some good QoL/Tweaks mods that you would recommend that you have not mentioned already?
Josiah Thomas
Hacking a Work Station for me, had to to do it while replacing 3 dead A-Team members that got bodied by the Snek King City Tile Set, sneaking along the edge of the building to a window that would have the angle for the hack. There was no hard cover on the street and other side of the road was the map edge. >"Wow I hope hacking this thing wont break concealment" - me Concealment's gone and I shit you not 4 pods wake up, 2 at each end of the street and a dropship was called down on my position. Spent the next 5-ish turn fighting off what.. 16 guys? Which by the way had almost permanent flanking shots, thank fuck I had Smoke Flashes and Medic Specialist. That Specialist died in the end, went out reviving and healing the rookies and corporals I had to take along. My first Colonel, pic related, that's him after hacking the work station.
Jacob Moore
guerria war might be a decent place to start ask again when more people are on
Generally stealth in XCOM 2 is focused on one single scout character, while your squad moved up behind him. You COULD try and sneak past enemies to get to the objective, but then you'll be surrounded by them when they're alerted to you. If you want to fight a more difficult enemy thatn ABA 2 and Additional mission types steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=647242867&searchtext=mission make the game much more threatening. Also check out class mods for some real stealth classes, either Paragon Classes or Shadow ops

It can't even be modded in? Can't Archons fly already? I can understand, flying was rather clunky and not well done in EU but come on I still liked it
Lincoln Ward
Archons and other "flying" enemies cannot end their turns in the air like in EU, they just get unobstructed movement. Blazing Pinions is just special.
Logan Reyes

I dont feel safe in my own home anymore did you see the death toll after xcoms last terror attack.
Asher Wright
>bought xcom:ew through the sale >reached a mission where we had to extract a vip >almost on our way to extraction site; only things standing between vip and site are two thin men >put vip behind full cover; head down >thin man somehow lands ohk on vip >mission failed, no reward, panic goes up
So THIS is the true power.....of XCOM....
Parker Kelly
sounds about right when ever dealing with thinmen
Christian Fisher
>>xcoms last terror attack
In the end we didn't get those kind of missions (and the Ayys keep theirs somehow...) but we cal always bring 3 Grenadiers to town anytime so its a wash.
Joseph Bailey
tfw they don't tell you that vips and civs have a hidden -1000 defense stat break los

Anyone experienced with armor modding know how much is too much, poly-budget-wise?
Ethan Hernandez
Pretty sure it says what the budget they used was in one of the pdfs that came with the sdk, or you could compare it with the armor from the game in whatever program you're using. I don't remember off the top of my head.
Jack Gomez
Ah, I didn't realize there were PDFs included. Time to redownload the SDK.
...See you in a month.
Parker Lopez
Well i checked, the pdfs don't tell you the poly budget, at least i didn't find it. I can tell you that an advent stunlancer is 7,446 tris though. Not counting the face, eyes and so on, just the armor.
Jace Reed

Tygan wasn't an officer and still got some, so they seem to be available to civs.

Getting them must be easy since Bradford complains about finding too many of their wrapping papers hidden under the command consoles.
Charles Torres
What changes would you make for the next XCOM game?
