My sister's bf has just started halo and he's loving it, bought mcc and halo 5. He also likes to read very much, what halo books should I suggest him, and in what order? I have not read any halo books yet, but I suggested him to start with the fall of reach first. Is that a good starting point?

These are the essentials. After that, the expanded universe starts to get into retarded territory and when 343 takes over direction it kicks that further into high gear, so proceed further with caution.

Note that you can actually skip "The Flood" because it's basically a novelization of CE but it does provide extra explanation for the events of the game while layering additional closure for TFOR and introduction for "First Strike".

Also, while Halo 5 clearly neglects and semi-retcons a great deal of it, I reccomend listening to the Hunt the Truth podcasts if you haven't already. Very well produced material, even if it's now largely irrelevant dye to Halo 5 rewrites and redirection.

Those last 2 are objectively false.
Splitscreen usage was extremely common even in the Reach and 4 days.
Most team slayer matches has at least 1 guest in them and big team matches often had more than that.
It's a staple of the Halo Community and what is generally expected of the games by most fans. Dropping it was necessary to reach the technical specifications 343 was prioritizing, but it's clear now that decision hurt more than it helped, especially seeing that 343 had admitted it was a Mistake and has promised splitscreen functionality will return in the next game.
