Lads, I've been using a Gateway via menuhax on my O3DS, but have a N3DS coming tomorrow which I'm going to put a9lh + Luma on, but I'd really like to keep a couple of saves from the Gateway. I believe it's possible (if not easy) to convert them to work with a CIA version of the same title, but is it possible to transfer them to the new 3DS too? I've read a ton of stuff and still am not clear on the process, or whether they're locked to a system.

Update:
Importing my save file as main.sav corrupts the save on the VC Cia and makes it initialize again.
All I get when I tried to export (to test what happens) are a .dat file and a regular file named Secure Value.

I've been following the flimflam69 tutorial, and am now done with dumping the nand for rednand.
The guide then tells me to copy back the files I backed up, which I have done, and then to start Haxchi.
This does not boot into emunand (can I call it that?), it just goes directly to the mocha menu as if I were pressing B.
Pressing the home button to get out of mocha also black screens the wii u, forcing me to reset.

Where do I go from here?

It's incredibly easy, but it can take a bit of time:

>install JK Save Manager on 3DS that has Gateway
>use Gateway menu to select a game so it shows as the game in the cartridge slot
>boot JK Save Manager
>Gateway game will now appear as a cartridge game
>export save
>import save later on same device or another device using JK Save Manager
>done
