Do a big block swap they said, it'll be fun they said...

>question
I have the opportunity to get a brand new edelbrock performer 289 for 100, or should I wait or spend more for a performer rpm or air gap?

This is going to be paired with 9.0:1 compression, gt40p heads, and an e303 cam.

Air gap is a meme. Stick with the regular performer

Performer is tuned for 0 to 5500 rpm and performer rpm is tuned for 1500 to 6500 rpm

That's the only difference so pick the one that works for you

It looks cool though. If I can get deal I'd go for one. You never see them though

I've got to think about it. The goal is like 320 crank HP,

doesn't matter 4u

Don't be fagguette

>have had chebby c10 parked for a few weeks
>had to go out of town, decided to bring battery inside since it would be sitting for a bit longer
>back home
>had time today to dink with it, and i was worried about it sitting, tired of driving other car
>dump battery back in
>fires up fine
>glugluglugluglug
>put some miles on the clock for fun
>the feels emerge from deep inside me

>lets go
>come on
>don't forget that i like you
youtu.be/bDUCYCPNFkA?t=1m59s

>get home
>stare at truck

feels good man

Think about when you want the HP/TQ not how much you want. Also I doubt 9:1 compression is enough for 320 hp.

If you put a bigger cam in (over stock) you increase the static compression ratio as long as the dynamic C/R stays around ~8.5:1

Lemme go double check and make sure I'm not spouting *complete* bullshit

A later intake closing (bigger cam) would increase the dynamic and lower the static.

Ideally higher rpm makes higher airspeed which can give you extra cylinder filling after BDC, if the valve is open at that time. At low port air speed you get reversion because the intake is open after BDC.

u first

I know this sounds fucking stupid because google exists, but what SBC could you compare a 5.3L to?

355?

The converter says it's 323cubes. So a 327 I guess

350cid = 5.7l

I'd figure it would probably be on the same playing field as a boat anchor 350 with low comp right?

327 CID

Liters * 61 gets you close enough.

CID / 61 for liters

...

What beginner classic car should I buy that didn't suffer that god awful tax as a project?

Do you like cars from the '60s? '70s? '80s?
Do you care about power?
Do you care about manufacturer?

it's cleaned up rather nice now. the hood color is growing on me, despite it looking a little too sporty for this

Yes
Yes
No

Yes
No
Yes

Only really care about manufacturers because of scarcity and ease of finding parts, don't care about collector "value" very much.

Definite bias towards GM engine designs, although I really think Ford nailed it with the forward distributor placement on some of them.

looking good dude

Chevy is by and far the cheapest as far as making power goes.

4door versions of something are always cheaper

Dodge darts/Plymouth valiant and dodge demon/Plymouth duster are still cheap and they came with many different engines from 225 slant sixes to 383 big blocks

Fox body mustangs are still pretty cheap

wait which is which
eh fuckit

Dodge Dart
Plymouth Valiant
Chrysler Cordoba (lel)
Dodge Aspen
There's still a few untainted Galaxies around
There's always Fox bodies and Turd Gen Camaros

Fairlanes seem to be right out because the boomers have gotten their shitty hands on them
AMC is out unless you like gutless 6 cylinders.

My evening escapades.

Fuckkkk this would've been a really killer picture if you just aimed a little bit up higher to get better framing

Are those special Delorean parking spaces too?

Holy shit why doesn't anybody build these late 70's early 80's barges like this?

Yes, they are. It's not bad for a quick snap while leaving.

Does this count? youtube.com/watch?v=rvzKbDPisnA

That thing is pretty wild, I can't believe I've never seen this one before at RWP

I was thinking more of like a Nascar style build, lowered with wide as fuck d windows

>do you like cars from the '60s? '70s? '80s?
>yes

>what decade of cars do you like?
>yes

don't be dumb

>Do you like cars from the '60s? '70s? '80s?
yes
affirmative
i sure do like all of these things

>Do you care about power?
no
nein
nicht

>Do you care about manufacturer?
yes
for reasons

Who's the dumb one now?

>do you like cars from the '60s? '70s? '80s?
>yes

is a perfectly valid answer

if it were:
>do you like cars from either the '60s ,'70s, or '80s?
then it would matter, but that's not what it says

pretty sure it was an open-ended question to help narrow down the list of potential cars to look for.

GIMMIE YER DOTS

You're both being dumb

yea...
:^)

Oh, for Christ's sake, tell me what you want in a car, domestic or import, a price range, and a nearby city and I will find you roughly 5 cars.

You should do rallycross

>Argue about Mopar vs ferd vs chebby
No argument, Mopar a best

>tfw no aftermarket support for your car
>even the carpet fits like shit

If that dude isn't gonna respond, domestic, comfy, buildability. I live in seattle

Ford and IH put their distributors in the correct place though.

I do enjoy an IH, but dist location is pretty low on my list of important things.

Also Mopar wedges had the distributor in the front

These wheels are growing on me. Did an interior resto in november, going to replace engine and transmission this summer (father son project)

Do you reckon the low end torque was worth the throttle response on that manifold

cool looking ride man, got any more?

Thanks man. I ordered some shorter and more flush bumpers for it. The bumpers stick out really far on these cars

Not sure, I haven't driven one. I think it's a neat design though.

Cruised with dad in his fairlane but the rings are shot on this engine, cabin full of blowby and no power

Man i have such a boner for the giant fucking ducts going to the carburetors on the thunderbolts
Last good pic ive got

I love all the old school drag pak cars

Makes me appreciate the cobra jet mustangs theyve done every few years. Too bad their inside circle productions and 100k a pop
>ywn have a bare bones necessities only mustang cobra jet

Yeah it's a neat concept.

Hemi>wdgehead>all
but since Hemis are too expensive
Wedge>all

440 is Sexy though. Especially with the 6 pack

Reminder that malaise era cars have insane untapped cool potential

Consider me reminded.

Awesome weather in germany
not a single cloud in the sky and 5°C
Cant drive my Duster because i know there is tons and tons of salt on the roads

GM even sells 5.3's as 327, although they're actually a 323.
classicindustries.com/product/camaro/parts/g13033.html

Spiritually, I'd consider them to be a modernised 305, given their ubiquity and smaller bores (3.78 and 3.736 vs the regular 4'').
The 305 would smack right in the middle of the modern 4.8 and 5.3 (3.27'' stroke for the 4.8, 3.48'' for the 305 and 3.622 for the 5.3).

Point proven

>that brown
>the primer hood
>that splitter
>that giant fucking bumper that could paralyze someone for life going 10

How would it compare to a old and tired 350 in terms of drivability?

Very favorably, especially compared to anything from the smog era.

what year

`72

The 5.3 is a hell of a motor, but your going to have to sirens side decent cash to put an ls into an older car.

Those 5.3s are awesome motors. I'm pretty jealous that fits doesn't make anything nearly as versatile

Alright sweet that's what I figured and hoped for

Think anyone would be fucking high enough to pay for this 77 Mustang?

abbotsford.craigslist.ca/cto/5932822910.html

It's only...a 6 cylinder...lmao

Why the fuck would anyone spend more than a tenth of that price on a stock mustang ii

>eurobeat in a C10

Does not compute.

Why is this picture so comfy.

Sheeeeit
cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/5930947431.html

Wow kkk shame you're such a deadbeat who spends all his money on drugs or you could buy an actual nice vehicle.

I don't do drugs no mo famalam. I'm spending all my money on ferd parts

...

1/11 cars are GM made in this picture.

T H I C C C C

Eh, if you're gonna spend that much already might as well spend another couple grand and get a really nice one

I see a Dodge Dakota, Toyota Corolla, and a Lincoln Navigator(?)

Where's the corolla?

My bad, I'm brainded.
9/11 cars in this picture are GM made.

Proof GM was behind 9/11.

Actually I think that's a Monte Carlo in the back.

>Implying bush didn't do 7/11

I haven't seen a 7/11 in legit 8 years.

I see them all the time. If you go to Vegas, there's a subway, a 7/11 and a Walgreen on every street corner

A great cruiser; perfect for daily driving:

Let me know if you want something that isn't a Mercury, but these should be diverse enough for most to find A car that works for them.

I wouldn't pay that much for it, but it doesn't look to be in too bad of shape. I don't have any room or money for another car right now regardless ;_;

M8 how much were those valve covers and where did you get them. I'm looking for a set with breathers

There's one a block away from the shop i work at.
Even in the year of our lord its still run by arabs

I bought mine used, and the place that made these don't make em for ferds.

customworksperformance.net/carbon-fiber-parts.html

>lord
Ford*

Lame

Here you go
ultra-carbon.com/products/valve-covers/

>700 dollar valve covers.
If was a rich boomer, I'd be on that like the foose on two tone.

>dad makes fun of me for buying a /6
>his Ram 2500 is a Cummins 24v
