In Siege, sound is equally as important as sight. Sound is just another kind of sight. By muting the game or playing music on top of the game, it's equivalent to putting a blindfold on. Sound carries an immense layer of information in this game, and if you claim that you're doing 'better' without it, it means you were never good to begin with and your 'increase in success' is more attributable to confirmation bias and placebo effect.

You can miss out on the other team flanking you, placing gadgets, going on cameras and hear them moving on the other side of a wall. All of which can get you easy kills and at the least information on where they are.

Okay, I think I see the pattern here: I need to hear the enemy. But doesn't really make THAT much of a difference? In all the other shooters I play I do just fine with always moving and looking around the map and checking all the corners and hiding places. I don't have time to figure out if footsteps belong to me, some other guy, or someone on my own team. Just run around, scan, and shoot.

That isn't true at all in Counter Strike. Having a bad connection severely gimps your ability to land shots and peak corners.

It's why everyone tries to have as low as ping possible meanwhile in this game you try to get EU friends to bring you into their servers.

it's not just about footsteps and kills, with out audio you can't hear, barbed wire rustling, barricade breaking, defuser planting, gadget deployment, nitro bomb clicking and all sorts of things

consider this game similar to cs, where sound is a huge factor. This isn't fucking call of duty. You won't get past nova in cs with no sound, just like here. So you're severely gimping yourself, to massive extents. I used to play with sound low for a bit until I realized that you can hear people in other rooms/above you and shit like that, it basically doubled my effectiveness.
its pretty self absorbed because its a team game and you're letting everyone else down by muting the game. Lots of games are won by callouts and you literally can't hear those if you're sitting there listening to music on full blast.

After the 300+ mark it starts to matter, but 250-275 is the golden number.

I'm not going to tell you because it shouldn't matter what level and rank I am.
