Is it ok to dev a remake? It's pretty fun and I can actually focus on bettering my deving skills instead of spending time on background stuff. Also, I want to try to emulate the good parts of the gameplay of a 2d game in the 3d medium.

What would you add/change about Cave Story besides it being 3d now? I think I'll add some new weapons so it doesn't get too boring.

The game of the thing you just made is completely different from CS, because you made it 3d. If pixel had been making a 3d game, do you think he would have made his weapons the same? His boss fights? This is a whole new system and set of constraints.

If you can thread the needle of good gameplay and and homage to CS, more power to you. But you have embarked on a real game design problem, and the optimal solutions won't be found by copying CS.

Those lists are basically pointless since anyone who think s he wants to start game dev still writes stupid shit like "I don't know how to program and draw and I want to make Witcher 4, how fucked am I?"

i need a colorset of 13 colors such that when combining any 2 colors of that set, you'd consider that combination to be pleasant. also, all colors need to be sufficiently distinguishable.

Idle animations are actually some of the hardest to do.

If you don't have the, your character will look like a statue, if you do use them you run a serious risk of making it look like your character is perpetually dancing or something.

Try studying the idle animations from the Spyro games, they're pretty gorgeous and fluid, and Spyro's form matches your lil' gryphon dude well enough

got the beam sword in

i made a quick anim for it in like 10 mins so it isn't very juicy and feels pretty boring right now

- shortest range but highest damage in game
-automatically destroys any small bullet that it comes into contact with
-blocked projectiles increase charge
-Increased charge powers up sword from 3 lvls
- beam knife
- beam sword
- oversized beam sword


auto block seems a bit too OP and chasing down enemies can be difficult so changing things up so it goes beam sword, oversized beam sword, obviously overcompensating beam sword so hitting things further out is easier

any suggestions welcome, trying to look for ways other people do melee weapons in SHMUPs for inspiration

How are eyes done usually in 3D games? are they static, or animated? Does it have to be procedurally animated so that they're looking at something?

UV fuckery for the eyes for low poly.
Separate eyeballs and eyelid movement for high poly models.
