Why do Americans still measure automobiles in horsepower?

Why do Americans still measure automobiles in horsepower?

Because, to this day, it's quite convenient just in the same way it was intended back then: it's easier to have an idea about an engine compared to a horse than it is comparing it to "watts".

And now I have argued against the metric system. I'll go kill meself.

It's not practical anymore because nobody rides horses anymore. Comparison to a horse isn't meaningful to the average person. The only rule to follow is "more horses=more better hurr"

>a horse has a bigger dick than me
>this thing has 200 horses
>each of those 200 horses has it's own dick
>holy fuck this thing has a dick much bigger than mine under the hood

Is this a complaint about the unit or about the obsession with power output? Because it can't be the unit since it stands in linear correlation to Watt.

Correlation=/=causation, retard.

That's exactly why I said correlation.

Because watts are for electricity, you dubs-droppin' foreigner.

Because our cars are too powerful to be measured by some sillynanny socialist metric.

>dude my ride has a billion watts
sounds so lame

it would sound a lot cooler if you measured in fractional megawatts.

Because their attitude is pic related. Any engineering professional will want to use metric when they can, but will deal with US customary when their paycheck depends on it.

holy fuck, you're retarded lel.

The space shuttle has 100,000,000 horse power. How is that convenient?

Hey bill get 100,000,000 of your friends together we're going to the moon!

Why do americans still measure units in inches?

> son this 5/8 spanner is a fraction too big, give me the next size down
> do you mean a 9/16 or a 1/2?
> the 9/16 u fuckwit. I have no son!

Compared to
> hey son this 24mm spanner is a bit too big, give me a smaller one
> here is a 23mm spanner good dad. Am i a good helper dad?

>Number are hard:((((

Canadians use it too. It's mostly used in the construction and machining industries.

At least you don't have to work on a car that inexplicably uses imperial and metric.

t. kid who sucked at fractions

...

>american cars are so weak they opt for a bigger number to make themselves feel better
lmao

You're stupid as fuck, what the hell are you even doing on this board man?

Are you retarded?

Because fuck you, we won 2 world wars and stuck a flag on the moon, that's why.

That's the only appropriate answer anytime you ask "why do Americans..." anything.

I work on a drill rig and I fucking despise imperial shit. Mostly because it's always mixed in with metric stuff and it's needlessly complex.

Fun fact, 1 real-life horse is capable of close to 15 horsepower.
Horsepower is just a name given to a particular measurement of work and was effectively a marketing term for steam engines.

>spanner
Lol

No one rides watts anymore either.

...

you measure something like that in thrust not hp retard

The soviets won WW2

S A V A G E

Yeah, but how tired is that making the horse? How long can his little hooves keep going at that rate?

The kikes won ww2*

Wrong.
It may peak at that power but it can not hold it.
The work an average horse can do in a hour is what horsepower is.

That's not wrong you retard, and you didn't make a claim to the contrary.
All you've stated is said horse doesn't have a 100%@15hp duty cycle. Still peaks at, so therefore is.

Kindly remove yourself from the gene pool.

because we're not a 3rd world country assface

because it lines up so well with lbft of torque

What's your alternative?

Kilowatts like the retarded aussies? We're not measuring the power output of a fucking vacuum cleaner.

nigga ride this dick

>spanner
They call them wrenches you fucknut.

I'm all for metric, I hate yards miles stones and whatever nonsensical shit that is pain in the ass to convert between metric and between itself.

But BHP makes more sense than KW.
Propably because I'm not an engineer.

lold

how did they dyno a horse?
where can I get my horse dynod?

You cant talk shit about horsepower while you still use rpm instead of rad/s

>a horse can work at 100% for a hour

A horse equal a horse power on average. The fact that it can peak at more for a minute does not mean shit.
Just because someone does the 100 meter sprint in 10 seconds that does not mean he will run 1 km in 100 seconds.
Why are niggers retarted?

It's all they got. American cars are simply always a decade behind.
