Aedra and Daedra are kind of the same thing.

They're both types of et'Ada, original spirits. What separates them is that the Aedra are spirits who took part in the creation of Mundus and Nirn. The Daedra did not.

It's not totally black and white, though, and there are exceptions, like Meridia. And Malacath is a weird one too.

Generally, Aedra are more aligned with Anu, the concept of order, and Daedra more with Padomay, the concept of chaos.

They're kind of like forces of nature. They're manifestations of what they represent. Hermaeus Mora is the prince of forbidden knowledge because he's a metaphysical manifestation of forbidden knowledge. Nocturnal is the prince of shadow because she's the metaphysical manifestation of shadow.

Meridia hates the undead because, in her eyes, they profane the light. And she's all about light.
