Not really - the segment leader would normally be Renault, but the latest gen Clio RS is woeful.
But you can buy previous gen Clios instead which would be a better choice than the Fiesta.
In fact the previous gen Fiesta ST might be better too, but they seem to rust a lot.

Have you ever driven one? They're a load of fun. Really easy to get lift off oversteer, interior isn't too depressing and the driving position is good. For 21k it's a great car.

I didn't like the steering or driving position. I know those things are subjective but I'm quite fussy about things like that rather than a few hp or lbft here or there.

I live in Germany and am now in the market for my first car. I want something that does it all: grocery shopping, bringing all my guitar gear from A to B, go on road trips / vacation with family, and be fun while doing all that. I'll mostly be driving it during winter when I can't take my motorcycle.
My budget is around 5000 €.
Should I just get a Fiesta ST and blow the rest on track days or should I get a Focus ST? Looking for ~2005ish models in both cases.

Biggest engine from the current Focus line-up is a 2.3L turbo 4 banger.

I don't get how people don't understand the appeal of this car. Ford is basically doing what Honda did with the Civic in the 90s with shitboxes design. Honestly I thought the consensus on Veeky Forums throwing a shitbox around a corner, that can barely handle it, was fun. Wringing out every last bit of the car on the road is an enjoyable experience even if at times a Corvette blows past me.

You're dumb if you think anyone with 300whtq doesn't have good wheels and tires to handle it. Obviously they've put the time and money into it, no one that does that goes "hurrrrrrr tires/wheels aren't important"

You can get around 280wtrq in a Fiesta ST with nothing but an intercooler and tune

And yeah, they probably have the money for grippy tires, but even Pilot Super Sports can make use of that torque in 1st/2nd gear. You have to sacrifice daily driveability with an Extreme performance tire like a RE71R, which is noisy/flings stones everywhere/has no treadlife.

A slightly bigger turbo that trades torque for HP would be better for the FiST.
