Well, it's based on Ascent but seeing as that its development was abandoned a decade ago when MaNGOS (and its derivatives) became the only server in use, I guess they might have had to rewrite enough of it to have a claim of originality that's not completely unfair to open source devs that actually did most of the job.

All cores are incomprehensible shit tier code full of hack fixes because we don't have access to blizzard's server code and have to emulate everything.

Not having access to the original source code is not really the reason for shit code. That's just bad management, bad architecture, low standards, etc.

We don't have access to the client code. We have access to the packets by sniffing them and figuring out what each one of them do. How ever, this all has nothing to do with the quality of, say, the MaNGOS codebase, which is a mess mostly because it started as a student project under the wrong assumptions and hence it's the pile of fixes it is today.

Too many shadow, their dps falls off too much after T4. Too many heal priests if you switch, they're pretty poor because they lack hybrid buffs even though CoH is very useful for specific fights. Poor mages don't get a sweet ass ele shaman. If damage is increased you'll want tanks with imp buff, tree buff, and devotion aura. Prot in G1 looks like such a waste, even with slightly increased TPS. G3 and G5 look like clusterfucks simply for mana batteries instead of increasing DPS. Though I like that g2.

You'll want a 3rd blessing. You don't want 2 prot paladins and you don't want to waste one of the 6 heal slots on an extra holy paladin. They make up for their DPS loss.

So as a priest, I am doomed to using wands until lvl 40, right? They certainly are faster and hit harder than my spells.

Use both wands and a melee weapon, even after 40 I still think its faster.
Here's how:
1. Pull with a spell or dot
2. Wand til mob is in melee range
3. Melee
4. Wand and while wand is on cooldown melee once, then wand during the melee swing timer.

It's insanly fast once you get a rythm going and makes priest one of the easiest classes to level, assuming you're talking about vanilla.

That's how I leveled my lock.

Mind flay is bad indeed before enough of boosts from shadow talents rack up (shadow form tends to be the breakpoint). However, smite tends to perform better and you of course have your DoTs. Spirit Tap from Shadow is a key talent because it removes downtime, beyond that you want to go disc at least up to Meditation. This goes for vanilla/TBC/WotLK alike although there are some differences (holy fire is actually a pretty good nuke worth using on cooldown in WotLK while you lose wand spec).
