for ck2, does city tax only affect counties where the main holding is a city? most of my counties have castles I think. does that mean the Large city tax doesn't work there?

Reposting to see if anyone has some suggestions on how to turn this around.

Prepared for a year, my puppets were gearing up, had just a war with Bulgaria for some Turk land. Even started preparing for a possible end of the war by starting nuclear research.

Declared war in early 1950. Plan red and blue went perfectly, took over most of MittelAfrika in just a few months thanks to my armored cavalry and mechanised infantry. German and Spanish colonies fell as quickly as I hoped, only Malaysia resisted a bit. By mid-1950, I had accomplished most of my goals, was starting to take troops away from Africa to Central Asia. The Asian front was holding: I took heavy casualties, but they took twice if not thrice as much. But then I started seeing German, French troops in Asia, and the Russians amassing more and more divisions. Then everything went to shit. The Russians attacked in Afghanistan with IIRC more than a hundred divisions in one province mostly held by Indian troops. The front broke. French/German invasions in North Africa, Chinese advances in the Himalayas and Burma, Ukrainians took over Bulgaria, tried to attack Turkey but the Turks are pushing back.

So here's the situation in early 1951. I'm retreating from India. They reached the Gangeatic plains, and it's too hard to hold. My troops, especially mountaineers, are doing their absolute best to keep Baluchistan and hold a corridor to funnel my troops through. The troops that were just too far retreated to the Naga hills and the jungles of northern Burma, but I'm starting to evacuate some by boat, thankfully the Chinese have almost no navy and the German squadrons were destroyed. I'm thinking of evacuating Indochina, but it's still a quiet front I can hold. I'm starting to make plans to just evacuate all my troops from the region, maybe retreat first to Malaysia, then probably take them back home.

I'm getting rekt. Seems like Allah isn't with me. I knew I should have restored the Caliphate.

Thats actually Danish. Theres an event in HPMeme that gives someone (I think a secondary power) Djibouti and Assab (the strip), but I colonized Djibouti before the event fired so when Denmark got the event they just got Assab. I'll take it from them or changeowner it at some point.

Out of all the features Victoria II is lacking, province purchasing is probably the most irritating.

What's the historical basis behind that? Legit question, from what I know Eritrea only stopped being in Ethiopian hands once Italy took it as a concession, and France was the first European power to colonize Djibouti as well. Am I wrong?

During the war of the pacific against Chile the US Ambassador to Peru wanted the USA to annex and then admit them to the union.

I want to do an early start Crusader Kings game, play until the end, and then import it to EUIV.

The problem is, every early start CK game I play, important places like the HRE never form, leaving Christianity permanently weakened. (Plus, I have no idea what would happen to EU with no HRE).

Hell, in my last game, I started with the Charlemagne start, and he refused to do anything he was supposed to do, died, and France split into a bunch of warring kingdoms until they got eaten by the Muslims. (And of course, the whole time they were an ugly quilt of "West Francia, East Francia, and France in random county-level blobs)

So, is there any way to have an early start and still have the primary important events trigger?

Does anybody have any good ideas in terms of long term goals for playing Venice in ck2?
I've already cucked Croatia out of it's coastal provinces and I am now making more monthly cash than the HRE despite consisting of four provinces. I can always assure my election as Grande Doge due to the money I'm pulling and I'm at the maximum cap for trade outposts.
This has all been done in the first 30 years of a 1066 start and now all the republic mechanics feel too easy.
So is there any hard but possible goals I should try to achieve?

Known bug with the AI, sometimes it just groups up and stays without moving. Happens to allies, enemies, everyone. Basically, the AI has a list of options for it to take at any point in time, and in certain situations it gets no options, so it does nothing. Because it does nothing, it doesn't give itself new options, and stays stuck.

I've even heard rumors of the bug leaking to recent versions of CK2 because of reused code.

Ok so I decided to go with the flag of the Society of United Irishmen, who led the Irish Rebellion of 1798.

I decided to use this flag since France intervened in this rebellion in favour of the revolutionaries, and said revolutionaries saw themselves as an Irish continuation of France's own revolution.

This flag is admitedly similar to the flag I use for monarchy Ireland, but the design of the harp is distinct enough to be noticeably different.

Just a randpm question, do you really enjoy making flags? I've only done it a handful of times and it's ok but time consuming. You always have to strike a balance between things that are regenerative and rewarding vs how much you invest.

For me it feels like labour-therapy (not sure if this term exists in english actually). It can be time consuming but it feels as enjoyable as playing a videogame sometimes even.

That's good. When you enjoy doing something it's only "work" about 1/5th of the time or so while the rest is leisure.
