Do ghosts exist ? And if they don't exist, then why do we still fear them ?

Do ghosts exist ? And if they don't exist, then why do we still fear them ?

Like fear of staying over night in abandoned houses or cemeteries.

this is just about the least topical thread I've seen on this board

Right, which Humanity is this again?

Is this just one guy forcing this meme, seems like it.

It's better then the /pol/ threads that's for sure.
It's kind of related to religion. I'd be interesting to hear biblical perspectives. Or historical accounts of ghosts if there are any.

I just decided to look up historical ghost
>One of the most frequently reported ghost sightings in England dates back to the 16th century. Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII and mother of Queen Elizabeth I, was executed at the Tower of London in May 1536 after being accused of witchcraft, treason, incest and adultery. Sightings of Boleyn’s ghost have been reported at the tower as well as in various other locations, including her childhood home, Hever Castle, in Kent.

Ghosts are a spook

>Like fear of staying over night in abandoned houses or cemeteries.

Fear of the dark which is rooted in millions of years of evolution.

I guess it could be anthropology.

I have yet to see any convincing evidence of ghost.

It would be parapsychology, which is altogether complete bullshit anyway and belongs on /x/.

...

your lame joke made me chuckle

Spooky studies

If you hear a rustle in a bush and assume it's just the wind, when it's actually a hungry cannibal, you win a darwin award. On the other hand, if you hear a rustle and assume it's a hungry cannibal when it's just teh wind, you lose nothing but a few seconds of anxiety. In other words, it's much "safer" to assume you're dealing with something with agency when something unexpected happens, even tho 9 times out of ten the rustle probably isn't a cannibal.

Parapsychology, theology and mythology could all apply.

I used to believe in the paranormal, but now, I find it extremely difficult to believe in the idea of ghosts or haunted places, particularly because of the notoriously arbitrary rules concerning the way ghosts act.

For example, why isn't Ground Zero haunted? According to all the criteria laid out by paranormal buffs, the place should be massively haunted, experiencing the most explicit of paranormal activity: full-blown poltergeist activity, teleplasties, screams and yells, full-fledged and visible apparitions, materializations, and more, But yet, there's nothing. But somehow, a house where an old fuck died is claimed the most "haunted spot" in the world.

This. Also, shouldn't there be a bunch of ghostly niggers from the times when they were kept as slaves? There was some major brutality inflicted on them, you'd think those old plantations would be crawling with the restless dead but nope, the only ghost is of a white lady in the picturesque plantation house!

>Like fear of staying over night in abandoned houses or cemeteries.
nigga can rape you in the night.

>want to get phd in parapsychology
>spend night in cemetery to gather EVPs
>raped by a nigger
>now I have AIDS and still no phd

Thanks a lot, Obama!
