Think about how to get the most value out of your evolves. Ideally, you want to evolve a follower that can hit face. Yes, Vampy looks super cute and summons a bat when she evolves, but if you just played her and you don't have Vampiric Fort out, evoing a follower already on the board and smorcing is 90% of the time better.

Which brings me to another point. You must ensure you have followers on the board when you enter the first turn you can evolve. This is why people playing aggro bats prefer playing a 1-drop and 2-drop on turn 3 rather than a 3-drop because you have a better shot at having something alive to evolve and hit face with.

Hold onto certain cards that synergize with others (namely Nighthorde, Summon Bloodkin) in the late game. Opponent at 2 life but has multiple wards and you have only summon bloodkin in your hand? It is better to hold onto the card and hope you draw Vampy.

If you don't think D-shift is still good you haven't had to deal with a turn 4 Levi evolve crimson magic piercing rune clearing your board and doing 5 fucking damage to you plus having a 4/X monster threatening you. And it all builds up to a +18 rune blade swordsman or some other bullshit that you couldn't deal with even if you didn't lose all your wards right before they popped DShift.
