Make your own manufacturer

If you could design your own car lines, what would your organization look like?

Mine:
>Three brands: Cheap, Fast, and Exotic
>Just three different chassis, all RWD based, the larger two accommodate AWD, the smaller two allow for engine relocation to the rear (MR)
>Only two engines, each with turbo options, four total engine variants
>Covers all layouts and body styles

Economy car
rwd
small sedan

This is not so much designing a car manufacturer and car line, but more along the lines of an alternate what-if situation in running a company.

For example, the Yugo US exports died off once Yugoslavia was sanctioned, so my idea would be to immediately import vehicles from FIAT instead, seeing as they were FIATs in the first place.

Likewise, the mass recall of Yugos due to emissions violations would be to either offer arbitrary EFI conversions, or once again importing EFI Fiat engines, whichever would be cheaper.

And finally, the GVX wouldn't be a simple 1.3 EFI engine, but rather an engine swap with a larger FIAT engine, to actually make the car somewhat sporty and quick. I'm not sure how well these ideas would work, but I'd try these venues to try and keep the company afloat and correct the brand's reputation.

Hatchback platform
>FWD base model (2.0L I4)
>AWD base model (2.0L I4)
>AWD homologated rally model (2.0L I4 Turbo)
>RWD Spec racing model (2.0L I4 Turbo)
>engine displacement for all models will vary based on what is required for homologation
Sedan platform
>FWD Mid Size Sedan (2.0L I4)
>FWD Mid Size Coupe (2.0L I4)
>FWD Mid Size Coupe (2.0L I4 Turbo)
>FWD Full Size Sedan (2.0L I4 Turbo)
>FWD Full Size Sedan (2.5L V6)
>AWD Full Size Sedan (2.5L V6 Twin Turbo)
>AWD Crossover (2.5L V6)
Truck platform
>RWD/4WD Pickup (1500 class) (4.0L V6 diesel)
>RWD/4WD Pickup (1500 class) (4.0L V6 Gas)
>RWD/4WD Pickup (1500 class) (5.3L V8 Turbodiesel)
>RWD/4WD Pickup (1500 class) (5.3L V8 Gas)
>4WD SUV (4.0L V6 Diesel)
>4WD SUV (4.0L V6 Gas)
Sporty platform (MR platform)
>RWD Coupe (2.0L I4)
>RWD Coupe (2.5L V6)
>RWD Coupe (3.0L V8)
>RWD Coupe (3.0L V8 Twincharged)

Engines
>2.0L I4 Gasoline (N/A or Turbo)
>2.5L V6 Gasoline (N/A or Turbo)
>3.0L V8 Gasoline (N/A or TwinCharged)
>4.0L V6 Gasoline (N/A)
>4.0L V6 Diesel (N/A)
>5.3L V8 Gasoline (N/A)
>5.3L V8 Diesel (Turbo)

transmissions
>8 speed DCT (available in all non-truck models)
>6 speed manual (available on all models, 4WD gets low range)
>6 speed torque converter (Truck models)

Wow, something you came up with on the spot?

I hadn't considered transmission options.

I did what most car makers do: build a parts bin, then build platforms. make popular variants using combinations. the only unique vehicle is the Halo car, the V8 Coupe

I'd do a Porsche-opposite: mid-tier car should be a 2+2 rear-engine, high-tire car should be a 2-seat mid-engine.

just revive pontiac

done

That's kinda the idea with the third line in OP

Like a Chevy>Pontiac>Cadillac thing

Buick is the third line.

>Mazda MX-5
>Renault Clio V6 Sport
>Cadillac ATS
>BMW 5-Series
>Mercedes S-Class
>Lexus LC
>Land Rover Range Rover
>Porsche 918

I'd buy the full rights to all these vehicles then redesign them to all look alike, probably with the LC as the base design.

>not having an affordable AWD hatch in your lineup

Seems like an oversight.

The small platform doesn't fit AWD, but that I4 could be turbod.

I actually tinkered with a 4th model for each segment: a small turbo hot Hatch, a medium AWD turbo sedan, and a large 2+2 MR AWD halo car. Didn't fit my spreadsheet pretty, need to adjust segments...

I would just remake these with ohv v8 and ohc i6s
Scoot the front tires forward to take weight off nose and stress off steering box

Sounds like you need to get the game Automation if you haven't already

>Buy tooling for Impreza GC8 body
>Source different engine specs and outsourced AWD systems
>Produce it in a third-world country with less safety restrictions/emissions etc.
>Export it to customers in different countries

Mine 4 brands

Economy
Produces cheap, fuel efficient cars. All cars are FWD or FWD dominant.

Luxury
Produces luxury cars. All cars are AWD.

Regular
The marquee brand. Makes normal, not cheap, but not luxurious cars. All cars are RWD, or RWD dominant.

Performance
Takes a car from another brand, makes it either faster, stronger, more agile, or better offroad, or any combination of the previous.

All 3 brands would share common platforms.
2 door subcompact (also 3 door hatch)FF only
4 door compact (also 2 door, also 3 door hatch, also 5 door wagon)

That turbo is for a tesla

I5? I7? All engine have FOUR forced induction options? How old are you kid?

I7 is intended as a heavy (nonroad) equipment engine. I like I5s especially Volvo's, sue me.

Are you gonna make planes and ship engines too? Haha

No. Only land-based vehicular engines.
I like inline sevens because of their bizarre-ity
P.S. I wish spoilers worked.

Sports
>RWD Coupe homologation, 3.5 V6 Standard, 3.0 V6 TT Optional, 5.0 V8 optional, 4.8 V8 Supercharged Optional, 6 speed only. No Trim packages, only add ons from factory. Must be special ordered. Sold under different brand name as to establish own brand, such as Corvette and Chevrolet, or Genesis and Hyundai/Kia.

There will be 5 brands. 1 standard flagship brand[F]. 1 economy brand[E]. 1 luxury brand[L]. 1 truck brand[T]. And 1 performance brand[P]. The will mostly share the same chassis/platform, but each brand will do their own take on it, and the body(cosmetically) and interiors will be different. The letters in brackets will be used to denote which brands are using which platform(s).
The standard brand will have a vehicle on every platform, with every transmission option, and every drive type option.
The economy brand does not produce dual clutch transmissions, or AWD cars.
The luxury brand has AWD standard on every vehicle, along with a DCT. Air-ride suspension comes either optional on every vehicle.
The truck brand has options more geared towards commercial use. Along with having a stronger suspension.
The performance brand has MT and DCT transmission options only. They are also trimmed down to weigh less, the ECUs are tuned for more power, and the suspension is tuned for performance/handling. All FF cars are redesigned to be MR. No FF(now MR) wagons, sedans, or hatchbacks are produced.
