Joining the Tuner Scene

I just graduated from medicine after working my ass off for the past 10 years, and at the risk of sounding like a huge faggot, I've been thinking of getting into the "scene" by finally getting a car I like and putting money into it and hanging out with other car people. I currently drive an econobox and I dunno, I'm 32 and I guess I'm sorta getting into a mid-life crisis and I don't really have any friends outside of work. Is this a good idea y/n?

get into the drift or track scene near you and go all out, you'll make lots of friends

first of all don't call it the tuner scene.

second, what's your budget and what are you genuinely interested in?

Also hanging out with other car people tends to be pretty lame not even joking. Just enjoy your car and hopefully youll find cool people to hang with.

Hanging out sucks dick if you're autistic enough to find Veeky Forums. I suggest finding a deserted back road you enjoy driving and buying a sportscar of your choice.

The first thing to decide is how badly you want this. The hobby car you get will HAVE to be your second car. Keep your econobox as a daily drive and have the fun car for weekends. This frees you up to allow the fun car to be something unreliable like a Mazda RX7 or a VAG product. That's the right way to do it

>you'll get in a lot of fist fights with mexicans
ftfy
The car scene around here is like fucking prison, I have to hang out with the nazis to not get killed.

Could be worse

>don't call it the tuner scene
What do the millennials call it now?

>what's your budget and what are you genuinely interested in?

budget is around 50k. I love jap and german shit. Recently I've been considering getting a clean 90's NSX, but I think I'd rather just get something that I wouldn't feel guilty about if I want to trash it around and put a bunch of tasteless mawds on it, like a BRZ or something

I went out to good spots around midnight on weekends and met people, hooned together . Tried normal car meets in parking lots etc, all loser hard parkers. Even the guys out in the mountains at 1am Sunday morning are scum bags ripping on a car they stole from a hard parker six hours earlier...

I dont know but calling it a tuner scene is just corny and reminds me of NFS, which is also corny.

for less than 25k you can scoop up a clean R32 GTR, either one thats already been imported here or one slightly cheaper if you were to find one in japan and import it here.

here one for 25k

this place in general has some great stuff.
japaneseclassics.com/inventory/

BRZ/FRS is another great choice.

go to meets, talk to people with similar cars/interests

idk getting into it 'late' doesnt really apply i went to my first meet when i was 25 haha

m-muh dik

that website is like JAV porn to me

Just be careful, apparently some people weren't completely satisfied with what they got there

shame modern jap cars are so fucking shit

only one that remotely interests me is the 86 but it needs so much work its hardly worth buying one stock

Weird and slightly disturbing at times?

more like, sexy as fuck on the cover but a completely different story when in motion

yeah I heard this as well, Im not sure where you are located but they do drive before you buy and its always good to try to check the car out before you buy it if you are able to.

another place I recommend is pacificoastauto

pacificcoastjdm.com/

they handle importing. I think the dudes are originally from Canada. Their youtube is gold tbqh

Funny thing is I'm from Richmond and I've met one of the owners, he's a bro but like an Veeky Forumstist bro, y-you too type of guy

If I were to buy an import they would be the first I check not just because of location, but there the only reputable importer ive heard about on the east coast that isn't in fucking Florida or Georgia

Since you've got money to burn, I'd definitely go with something more unique like the NSX you mentioned, rather than a Miata or GT86. Import a GTR maybe?

didnt you seem him just say he doesnt want to trash an NSX?

>Import a GTR

did you not read thru this thread?

ffs

goddamn me rikey that R33

too bad it wont be legal in merica until next year

>What do the millennials call it now?
>Implying you aren't a millennial.

Getting a BRZ is a pretty solid plan. It's not terribly expensive and Subaru owners are friendly to the point of being creepy so you'll find friends

Get a Porsche 914 and swap a rotary into it.

Ignore all other suggestions.

Then just look around for some car guys. In Florida, you can just meet them on the streets since car scenes are huge here.

>What do the millennials call it now?
Millennial are people born after 1982. You're a millennial.

>go to meets, talk to people with similar cars

Groups that all have similar cars are so shit in my experience.

They're generally just fucktards sticking in their bubble that have no idea what they're talking about.
You want a more eclectic group unless you're one of those fucktards that just wants a hugbox to reinforce your idea of your shit car being the best ever.

Sensitive thin skinned nocar here, wanting to get a Corolla for my first but also go to meets. Will I get abused by these fucktards?

Why would you get a corrola
They were just shitty company cars in NZ

because muh aesthetics and reliability

Brz is a fantastic choice. Rear wheel drive and highly upgradeable engine for a pretty solid price. Slap a turbo in it and you have yourself a solid tuner car

>graduated from medicine

Yo dawg, once you get dat DEA license, hmu with some oxymorphone scripts and some liver enzyme inhibitors. I'll tell you all about cheap engine management tuning, seems fair.

drugs r bad

Where do you live? That will determine a lot. If your city doesn't have a thriving car scene then you will end up stuck in a parking lot talking about how much exhaust backpressure some high school kid's civic needs to break traction.

>drugs r bad

You so silly! I had a good chortle. People actually believe this shit! Enjoy being a slave to a society that is so scared of itself that it suppresses your natural desires!

>Not taking cyp2d6 / cyp3a4 inhibitors + 100s of milligrams of amphetamines and morphine before hitting up the touge with 5 pre-rolled blunts.

Do you even drift?

Every faggot has a brz it would be a lot cooler to get a miv supra, fd rx7, or nsx.

*mkiv

tuners are just as bad as ricers.

Get a car, do some scca, hit the drag strip, sign up for a track day. You'll meet tons of people this way.

This along with trackdays and you should make plenty of friends. I've made a lot of friends
just from the driving on backroads part over the past decade or so
