Out of all the ships Reaper/76 isn't that popular. It's just that most of the time when you see shipping art with 76 or Reaper it's with those two together. Everyone else they were paired with sank.

It would be the only substantial relationship in the plot. It would provide more motive for both of them and breaks out of the cliche "good vs evil" rivalry. It would only improve the story. It would only be cringe if you had them act like school girls about it but so far Chu has done a decent job writing both of them so that won't happen.
