Honda's 500s are very good bikes. If you are willing to buy new go for it.

Its a good bike, but consider buying used because the likely hood that you'll #rekt the bike is fairly high. Wrecking a new bike absolutely kills the resale, which means that the next swinging dick who wants to start on a low cc sport bike (your position right now, exactly) will pick it up for dirt cheap

What bike did you start racing on?

Because the bikes are designed with a high centre of gravity meaning you need to use a different body position than you would on a roadbike otherwise you will highside the thing.

Your foot is a counter balance, the further you lean, the higher it needs to be, at full lean your foot is pretty much on the front mud guard.

However, being the black sheep in the group, I do not own a motorcycle yet.

New rider, rode around on my grandpa's CB500 from the early 70's and my brothers 2009 Shadow Aero.

So I'm looking at the Honda CTX 700T, which is the package on the left of the image.

Anyone have any experience with this model?

My first prepped racebike that I used. Back when the GSXR600 was new and the Dunlop D364 was still the tire to use, even though you had to run the front backwards to combat instability on the gixxer... Headshake was a very fun thing on straights before steering dampers were the norm.

And I have rode, just nothing far, and not on any bikes I owned.
