How hard is it to earn a solid 150k/year?

I'm currently first year police officer and enrolled in the army reserves.

In the police service I work for, officers make $104k after 5 years of service. If I attempt to go for a promotion (Sergeant), they start around $110k. Hypothetically going up the rank scale will give you a bigger paycheck. But at the same time, the more you make, the more taxed you get. Plus, the higher you go in the police force the more admin/politics you get into.

Essentially what I'm saying is, I'll only be making $100k from policing (not interested in going past Sergeant) and 5k from army duties.

My question is how do I potentially make 45-50k in my field? And overall, how hard is it to earn a solid 150k (after taxes) in today's society?

Why do I feel like that is a terrible idea

Maybe for some, not to everyone though. I'm a simple guy and it's a laid back job with lots of opportunities and you make a decent-good earning.

ACAB

I'm 18 and I make around £3000 a week day-trading which is close to £156000 a year aka almost $200000.

Why would you want to be a wagecuck when you can git gud?

This is also AFTER tax, I get 45% taken off of me because of socialism and Juden.

take bribes

>under 19s
lol

I'm changing when it expires next year

>£3000 a week
>day-trading
lel

Noones actually rich in Veeky Forums

Can you post the tonne of money picture you have?

Mr Walkey, how do you do it?

Invest in bitcoin bro

£3000 a week isn't exactly rich in the grand scheme of things and I know theres people here who have made more

After you shoot poor people, check their pockets. Sometimes they have stuff. Don't forget to plant a weapon

...

3k a week is pretty fucking rich bro, considering 'average wage' here is 24k but for our age its more like 10-12k. You said you got all that from bitcoin day trading?

I don't actually bitcoin trade, I trade similarly to the way people were making money during the chinese shipping autism a few weeks back where they bought before market closed and sold just as it opened

I also made alot of money during brexit with stocks like the barclays ibarc and VXX

fair play m8 if its all real

Lol, any other legitimate ideas?

Explain the chink shipping autism thing.

oy

What are ya talking about m8

please explain where you make that money as a simple copper? Are you swiss or something, where a brezel costs 15€?

my dad worked up to captain and I think he was making around 130k or some shit. Hours were awful; working graveyard in your 50's is not comfy. He was working and sleeping opposite his wife about 1/3 of the year.

that said

he invested in property and made very good money off that. Bought houses and used the intuition and people skills he learned from policing and applied it to tenants and contractors and other workers on the houses. He retired after about 30 years on the force with the OP retirement police get plus over 1mil in property all paid off

He's worth like 2-3mil I think

dunno if that helps you OP. The houses were a shitload of work and financial sacrifice to get running but as you can imagine once they're stable they're very little maintenance with high yield

That's very interesting, thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

Yea I know that police shift work can kill you especially if you do extra overtime, court cases or pay duties. Yes it's good extra money but again it just drains you and you're at work all the time.

Sometime these sacrifices have to be made in order to put that extra money elsewhere (business, property, stocks etc) so that it pays off in the future.

Just don't know what to put the money into though. All I do is policing and soldiering.

...

Where teh fuck are you policing man?

well, if you really are making 100k a year, most obvious places to invest are going to be taxed really high based on your tax bracket. Go get an accountant with a good reputation and learn how to invest into areas that won't get taxed as hard. Don't be asking Veeky Forums we're all a bunch of fucking retard as you should already know

In Canada buddy

Yea clearly, but some aren't though.

What businesses would be lucrative to start up right now?

cops in RCMP / cities make like 60-70k first year, and cap out at like 90k. You are lying about how much you make.

I'm not with the RCMP and once you get Sergeant in the RCMP, you can go higher than 90k. I'm with a city.

Thanks, mate

TPS? Do RRSP and pension contributions. Invest in a TFSA

No wonder your country is in economic trouble.

What's the big action of the day? A moose wandered into town?

Torontofag? A friend of mine is trying to be a cop and he was telling me they payrate.

Notbad.jpg

No not Toronto but nearby. The pay rate is pretty good.

There was some kind of bubble in chinese shipping and retards on here made like $200 a day using some autistic method involving buying before close and selling when the market opened. I didn't partake in this because they were literally guessing which stock would actually make them a profit.

Those are usually for when you're retired. I'm talking about how to achieve this salary when you're in your career.

york region or peel?

York

You're trading on the normal stock market, right? Do you have a special strategy our do you invest in all sorts of stuff that seems profitable to you?

hey you're in with York? I've considered applying there and peel. Toronto's in a freeze and they're thinking of cutting some more next year. How was the process and all? I recently graduated and right now it seems like only corrections and the OPP is hiring.

Contributions you make to your RRSP give you back some of the money you would have paid in taxes

Yep. Yea Toronto is a 3 year freeze and yes OPP is hiring. Try your luck with either OPP, Durham, York, Halton or Peel. What did you graduate from? And as for the process, it's extensive as usual. Takes about 5-8 months.

True but is it enough to put me where I want it during my career (150k)?

Guelph-Humber Justice Studies Honours BaSC.
Also did my ASIST since it seems it might become a mandatory thing for police in the future or at least with crisis response.

Nice, heard great things about that program.

You don't really need ASIST but life experience is definitely needed. They don't only look at education. When I got in, I had at least 4 years military experience under my belt.

>You don't really need ASIST but life experience is definitely needed. They don't only look at education. When I got in, I had at least 4 years military experience under my belt.
Dang, guess someone as fresh as me won't really be that appealing comparatively. Any suggestions on how to improve or gain life experience?

>150k (after taxes)

Depends on the state
>NY tax 30% state 30% federal on all income
>150*3 = 450k/yr = low income worker

>FL 30% federal no state
>(150/2)*3 = 225k/yr

I live on long island, my parents are black immigrants from south america who make 150k a year and honestly so there's honestly no excuse for a native born white man not to be able to get to 150k.

That being said 150k only goes so far as the location allows it, 150k a year would make you destitute on long island if you don't already own a home.

Just try to get a variety of courses and experience under your belt. Education, work courses and experience, volunteering, travelling, something outside of the norm etc.

my pops is an immigrant as well
holds a fulltime and a part time super
as well as a side contracting biz doing some remodeling
made almost 170k before taxes
>no investments

the man busts his ass, but has zero financial intelligence

shame really, I've been trying to get my parents into investing for years but they aren't going to listen to me so I've given up.

At the same time I kinda understand it though now that I have my own job, sometime you just want to not worry about money in the little free time you do have.

yes yes yes, i know many teenagers with trust funds too

You tell me. Being a dentist is the fast lane to a good life.
>Finish High School
>Go to college for 4 years and major in biology or chemistry
>go to a dental school for 4 years
>get licensed by your state
>work in some rich white dude's practice
>get paid 154k a year (average pay)

Fresh outta high school and straight to college it would take 8-9 years to start getting paid. Although dentists have the highest suicide rate, just don't be a pussy and you're rich.

Convince 1000 people to give you $10 per month for 12 months + work casual job.

>You tell me. Being a dentist is the fast lane to a good life.

This, I have a Dentist uncle and the guy makes the most amount of money in the family. If you can handle it, being a dentist is easy money.

>8-9 years
>fast lane
So you're 27 when you get your first paycheck and I'm telling you that it wont be 150k a year. You're probably from the US and I can only use euro numbers but they're similiar I guess.

Like in any medicine field you start as an intern and your make less money than your engineering and finance friends in their first job (6 fucking years ago). 2500 euro at best, probably less. The only way to make a lot money is through having your own dentil office. Median income is 130k€/150k$ like you said but keep in mind that 50% of dentists make less than that and it varies alot.
Here comes the thing: You wont reach 6 figures unless you have your own office. This first of all takes a lot of money (average is 350k or something here) and most importantly you're self employed then. Prepare to only have 70k left after taxes and everything. 50 hour work weeks (above average) too.

Not saying becoming a dentist or medicine in general is bad but you really shouldn't do it only for the money. There are other jobs in which you'll make just as much or even more money. Dentists actually are on the lower end of income when you only look at doctors. It's not as fancy and relaxing as you think it is.

Lol no

The 10% lowest paid dentists of the US were paid around $68,400. In the US, this is middle class. Enough to live comfortably and happy. So money is not even a topic to discuss when being a dentist. They're loaded. The only time dentists are tight with money are in their first 2 years due to loans and what not. Practice or not, they all end up owning a cadillac eventually. Most people, or the average joe, make 6 figures without their own practice.

Dentists have one of the best hours any other career has. They work 35 hours a week on average and only work Monday-Friday while still maintaining their solid pay.

Dent

sounds like horseshit.

-9 years
>>fast lane
also I'd like to know what other career gives you that good of a pay in that amount of time that doesn't have that much stress in it

Yes, but....

Others could start working and earning at 18
And have zero debt
And be homeowner by 22
And be renting to tenants, etc...
And they don't have to put up with 4 crushing years and dentistry school

Dentists do make a lot though.

Believe me, no one fresh outta high school that doesn't win the lottery or hits a goldmine off of something won't be a homeowner at 22 and renting to tenants. You're lucky to earn $40k a year fresh outta high school with no degree.

Basically; others don't exist.

If they do link me something
