Not quite. A credit score is a way of quantifying your risk to a lender. It takes payment history into account like you said, but many more things too such as average age of accounts, types of accounts, number of recent credit inquiries, ratio of available credit to balance, etc.

Checking your own credit does not effect the score or count. Only "hard inquiries", i.e. you are seeking specific credit. More is bad because it implies you're trying and failing to get financed or you want a whole bunch of credit for some reason. It looks risky.

No, go with the S2k. The FRS/GT86/BRZ will lose tons of its value after 8 years. The S2k will not have lost nearly as much.
Plus the S is just a better car.

Also lowers interest rate if you are working with a decent lender. The less you borrow, the less risk there is for the lender. The less risk the less Interest normally, your credit score factors into this as well.
