I find that ratting fits my brand of autism more than other ways of acquiring money. I trained into relic/data skills v, did explo for a few hours, extracted all the skills and put them into gun skills.

You need to figure out what to do. Traing Weapon Upgrades, CPU and PG management when in doubt.

If you wanna keep flying that Merlin train small Hybrid Weapons and then Hybrid Railgun/Blaster Spec, and of course Caldari Frigate skill. Since you'll probably want to shield tank it, train stuff from the Shield skills as well.

Before that, you might want to train essential core skills like Hull Upgrades IV and most things on the Engineering and Navigation skillsets. That goes for everyone, not just Merlin pilots.

Oh and train stuff from Gunnery skills too.

Because being shackled in place in Null is a good way to lose a billion ISK, and in HS missions the goal is to blitz for maximum LP/hr so you can't afford to get locked in place when you gotta go fast.

Machs are useful too, you just don't want too many of them.

TVP still use machs, but outside of the roles that their speed gives them an advantage for and the ability to take armour shots during contests they're just bad nightmares. You want enough to fill the roles and an extra or two and that's all.
