/Brit/ General

Just paid 750 britbongs for an old TR7 drophead, stashing it away for now. Need to get it up on the lift to remove some rust and weld some bits. Other than that, it's not bad for 750.

Anybody into little British cars?

pic related, the one I just bought.

The guy I bought it off claims it's been in an aircraft hanger for a while, the last owner was a pilot.

and another

It appears to at least have an engine

My question is, why a TR7? I've worked on and driven almost all of the TR series cars and the 7 leaves a lot to be desired when compared to the others.

My mum and I had a few when I was a kid. It's for both of us to fix up together, she's pretty hyped for it. Also, first actual car so cheap insurance for a 2 litre.

throw an mx5 running gear under it for a semi-reliable worst british shitbox ever.

...

>Anybody into little British cars?
Sure.

yee boy

Just picked up a '92 Jaguar Vander 6. Pristine condition, barely 59k miles on her. 2300 bucks.

what can you brits tell me about MG F?
How does it compare to MX-5 or MR2?

Literally no reason to buy one when the MX-5 and the MR2 exist, are just as widely available and can be had for a similar amount of money.

My brother bought this brand new in 1976 (77?).
After he passed away six years ago I found this behind his house under a tarp. It was British Racing Green and full of squirrels.
I gave it to a friend of mine who took it to his shop. After he cleaned it up and put in new gas, a battery, and fresh oil and a tune up it started right up. He checked the floor pans and trunk and it was practically rust free as it had been undercoated more than once. He painted it blue and got it ready for his daughter to drive.
It was nice to see it brought back to life.

You gave away your brother's car?
You have no heart m8

He died. I had already gotten rid of several other cars because I was out of room. I didn't want another one.

Ahahaha you got SCREWED!
Your steering wheel isn't even on the correct side. You got fucked and you're too dumb to know it!! Aaaahahaha!!!

I also gave away my 1965 Triumph Herald. It was complete and rust free, but it only had 50 horsepower and the top was broken. I gave it to my friends wife.

Fellow TR7 owner here.

OP the next step is to replace the engine with a Rover V8, or if you want to keep the old engine, replace the head with a Dolomite Sprint head, can add up to 30 horsepower. I hope your water pump and head is in good shape. Hardest to remove. Where's the rust at? Most common places is the wheel arches and rocker panels. I hope yours isn't too bad.

As far as power is concerned. It had better handling and steering than previous models.

Pic is my TR7

Murriclap here, we've got MG MGBs up to our fucking ears here, should I get one?

If you know how to work on cars and have a lot of patience and extra income, then why not? Just don't expect it to be a daily driver.

>It had better handling and steering than previous models

Again, I was never too impressed when driving one. TR3s, 4s, and 6's were a blast. As was the 1 TR8 I got to drive. The 7's always felt slow and sloppy to me, I always though about trying to swap a Saab engine into one though.

Ok, I can appreciate it if there's a sentimental attachment to it. Nice to have a project to work on with your parents. And I guess your in the UK so you'd get penalized for having larger engines, so it'd cost more to have a TR5,6 or MG-C.

Since my TR3 is in pieces and looks like nothing, I'll post a pic of my dad's Spitfire.

hello friends!

fuck off thailand

The colour on yours is incredible! Here is some underneath shots of rust and stuff.

and another

and another one

Better engine than either

That has the look of a car that's been sitting for some time, and has not been properly taken care of when it was on the road. Best of luck in restoring it.

TR7s look cool I've seen a few in my area. My dads got a MGBGT in Ferrari Grigio Medio that's fully restored. I guess being able to DD one and drive it on trips is supposed to be a feat?

My mom has a 1979 MG Midget 1600, but it hasn't run since 2008. I miss riding in that gas-reeking deathtrap of a car.

Really? That's the first compliment I have ever received on the color. Thank you.

DDing it stock is a definite feat.

Why not get it going again?

Brown only works on a handful of cars, looks really good on the tr7.

She actually took it to a British specialist a few months ago. Once it's running (part-time lol, British Leyland) then we will decide if we are going to sell or keep it.

He drove it back wisconsin to az in its barnyard state but it had been in his family since new. He restored it here and it looks amazing now. He takes it on fishing trips to nevada and new mexico so it must be complete now.

It looks to be a pretty rare colour variant as well, not many online. Take good care of it!

That's a nigger tier speaker installation job

holy shit, I didn't even notice!
