/indie/ - Indie And Misc. Games General

EIGHT YEARS edition

Last thread:
>What the fuck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as LISA, Yume Nikki, OFF, Middens, Underrail, Machinarium, DashBored, Vampire of the Sands, Braid, Limbo, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, The Desolate Hope, Burrito Galaxy,Cookie Clicker, Stardew Valley, etc. as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Rayman, Pillars Of Eternity, Rise Of Nations, and Valkyria Chronicles. But especially Age Of Empires.

Mobile or consoles, flash or unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads (since they have no other home in Veeky Forums), however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>How can I contribute?
All we need right now is people to talk about their loved indie and miscellaneous games, so don't be afraid to post, bump and reply your fellow anons. Also we're looking for anons to make new pastebins/wikis/images and update the ones already made. And please give lots of feel, love, kind and nice to everyone, except namefags. And be sure to make a new thread if nobody else does.

Big news is after eight years, Overgrowth is in beta.

pcgamer.com/after-eight-years-overgrowths-kung-fu-rabbits-are-ready-for-a-beta-release/

Stop resisting, /indie/.

Any other games inspired by Machinarium?

WAKE UP

How long has it been out? How have i only heard about it today?

It's been out for ab it. Some people in this thread have played it

Heard, crow check points are a 1 time use, thats gonna be tough.

That's what turned me away.

I still gotta finish up some stuff, and then transfer my Arkantos save from my old computer to my new one (because no way in hell am I doing Hell mode in that game all over again.)

Like a couple weeks

It's pretty good, you should play it

youtube.com/watch?v=j03wSiXXTsw

Any of you guys have this game, the creator took it down from the site. So, anyone got a link for it?

Also no campfires... though i heard the story and writing makes up for it, also only 1/3 is finnished so far apparently.

Arkantos is shit. Pointless is an actual game and not some shitty fanfiction.

Eh, I'm having fun with Arkantos, although it probably helps that I'm doing hellmode, so I have Rando around to help prevent me from getting stunlocked.

how are you enjoying every random enemy having over 10000 hp

I have Buddy put on bleeding+poison, while Rando burns them, so their HP doesn't take too long to melt away.

That's every fight man. Every fucking fight is against a giant fucking hit-sponge with thousands and thousands of HP that you have to poison or use Joy-stabs to kill.

Thanks man

it's honestly a finished game even as is

Anyone here actually made a "indie" game like what's usually posted here? Plan to?

Nope. I've only ever designed tabletop games, which don't require coding or art skills.

I designed one of those once.

I know the guy who makde Dashbored game here, and there is a guy working on Steel Zeroes, an RPG about robot girls with wakfu hips.

>tfw you made an edgy 2d horror platformer years ago with shitty programming and a bunch of other rpgs
>everyone plays the 2d platformer and makes videos of it because the other games have programmer art because they were basically tech demos

I'm so much prouder of my newer games compared to my first cringefest, and yet it's the one everyone plays.
Why must indie games suffer from the pewdiepie meme cancer to be more exposed to the public?

Whats your game user?

Also, because people crave obscurity, its the same reason why people are so keen on posting "first".

You just literally said the newer games "were basically tech demos", there's your answer.

Why would you expect people to play tech demos over a proper, if more amateurish, game?

selfish-dream.itch.io/one-of-us

I was an edgy teen when I made it. Had already uploaded it on newgrounds, decided to upload it on itchio because newgrounds is basically ded.

The first game has somewhat nice graphics. That's it. All you can do is run and jump. The other games have actual rpg mechanics, and the last one some proper graphics. But people always go for the first one.

Woo no "No Thread Found" this time I clicked the /indie/ bookmark!

>made an indie game
Yeah.
>like what's usually posted here
Perhaps not so much.

I'm making an RPG dungeon crawler now, though, which will be kinda similar to LISA/hylics/middens/end roll in some ways.

That game is still in early acces? I saw it on steam now and instantly closed the store page when I saw dialogue.

Primordia? I forgot what that machithing was.

Forever be a demo and now also taken down by the dev. This meta feels so right for space funeral.

>the creator took it down from the site
Huh why

Because he know makes a pure bubsy fangame.

I just don't get it. Busby is like entirely unrelatable and none of the Busby games were even that fun...

Did you play Space Funeral 4? The dev manages to make you care for that bobcat.

I did not, was waiting for it to... finish.

The game is done unless another god picks it up to create a sequel/complete the game. Go play it.

b-but the guy working on Classic Game is going to finish it at least... right?

>Yeah.
post what it is ya fuck

dev announced that that's been turned into a Bubsy fangame too, now. sorry user.

noooooooooooooooooooo
lmao

...

>Out of curiosity, how did you feel about the font change?
Mixed feelings. The old font was not the most readable, and I remember a lot of people complaining how they had to play around a lot with resolution/font size to find something that's both comfortable to read and doesn't rape their eyes with how huge it is.

The new font is much easier on the eyes - but has the same problem, except now it's the lower resolutions that suffer. On lower it now looks like ass, you often can't make the punctuation out well. I have a toaster on which I still play an older version, because the new font is downright annoying unless I set it to large and have it cover half of the screen, even though the small font is already huge compared to the old one. But on the machine I usually use the new font is definitely easier to read.

Other than this, the old font fit the game better. The new looks like it'd fit some noir murder mystery point and click more than a post-apocalyptic sf game. But I can live with it.

Stop dying

I've seen this response a few times. A weird person doesn't understand Modern Bubsy I mean.
>I'm weird and I tried so hard to fit in
>Why would somebody who fit in try so hard to be different

It's sad because I feel like they'll never be able to love themselves

I liked SF4 when it was SF4. I don't care for this trashy looking Bubsy.

I played this game a while ago. Am I wrong, or could this whole fiasco have been avoided if the big sister just stayed home? Big Sis left because the little sister was sick, but she seemed well enough to kill an army of monsters to get to big sis.

Also, what did the secret code you get do? I was playing without internet access on my old computer, so I never found out what the secret room had in it.

It was a bonus room I think or it was the link to your personalized poll.

I've worked on some stuff but never to a point where there's anything really past preliminary art and basic movement controls due to my shortcomings as a coder. Devising a Highlander-based tournament ruleset for foosball was way easier in comparison.

>game gives you an endless supply of Gbetos once you complete a quest

Might as well just say "WIN"

>custom AoE2 scenarios and campaigns
Now there's a blast from the past

AoE2 HD is pretty active.

twitter.com/nicalis/status/822140483279286272

Jesus christ.

The work of one who consorts with beasts!

>because I followed the rails, I killed everyone in SGO before finding the drone attack team
Oh well.

Well, that's going to make your job easier from now on, I guess.

Bubsy is moe af nigga

>Stasis - Places the target in stasis for 2 turns, making it immune to all damage and most disabling effects, but also preventing it from acting. While in stasis, the target's status effects will not progress (except the stasis one), but the cooldowns will.

So I wonder, is psi regeneration also frozen while in Stasis?

Well that disappeared fast.

who cares?

Huh weird. It was necalis who showed that he put BoI, Cavestory and something else on the Switch. BoI gets a physical copy for the Switch, too.

>lunatic shopping mall
How the fuck do you deal with this without stealth? There's like 15 of them that will all aggro at once on the upper floor, and they cover the whole spectrum of damage types + CC since they're all psykers.

By being a psyker yourself, of course.

That part made me quit the game temporarily. I was a stealth sniper and had to puzzle that part out slowly with a lot of retries

I am yet to find a problem I can't solve with fire.

Did you use traps? With stealth, you can put traps in front of the doors to slow down some of the psi-guys while you deal with the ones in the open.

>stealth sniper

So why didn't you just simply stealth it? You don't get much out of killing them. Maybe one of them had an oddity, I don't remember. But still, it's not a big deal.

Here someone saved the image

>So why didn't you just simply stealth it?

I wanted to make them bleed for their sins

Sure, I'll just call up cheat engine and FUCK YOU.

I'd have used traps if they weren't SO FUCKING HEAVY LIKE HOT DOWN, WHY CAN'T I REUSE A BEAR TRAP OR COAT IT WITH POISON WHEN USED?

Pack rathound feat helps.

Nah man, seriously though, if you can't win in a fight, then stealth it. I don't know what kind of build you play, I can't give you a more specific answer than this. But stealth is always an option if you can get your hands on some acceptably decent gear.

This better have been fucking worth it

Aquire additonal pylons.

>999 stygian stacks
Nigga how old is this?

To be honest I really miss my stacks. Nothing makes you feel rich as fuck like ten rows of coins.

Me too. Having all those piles of money gave a tangible sense of having too much and made me question my Al Fabet habits. One tiny number doesn't cut it.

Just split em manually. It's not hard.

But user, that would look as if I was desperate to appear rich.

I'm giving it another shot

...

You are if you're lugging around all that junk to make money you don't use.

>don't use
Now wait a second, that's not true. I hand out Stygian coins like fucking candy. You want 5000 charons? Sure, who cares, take it. You'll spare my life for 100 charons? I just killed a god, but I'm not really in the mood so whatever, here you go. I could repair this thing myself? Ehh, fuck that. Here random asshole take this 2k, now wörk. I could have a fancy curtain in my shitter for 10k? Gimme.

Man where the fuck do I find a good bootspring

Why the fuck is the mechanic the only guy in core city whose out of business

god I just want to make some shiny chrome shoes

RIP rows and rows of stacks of cash

"it"

Shadowrun HongKong worth the additonal 3 bucks?

If you're not throwing grenades (or other things that are as noisy?) you won't aggro absolutely everyone.

Also, you can still do level exit/entry fuckery. Take them to the stairs, and they'll only come down slowly.

At least they did for me, only ever coming down in ones or twos.

Good question, I still haven't played it.

Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall were okay-ish. Not much choice around if you like cyberpunk.

waypoint.vice.com/en_us/article/power-cuts-and-hotspots-making-a-game-in-cuba-is-pretty-challenging

I will never forget the sacrifices of the Cuban video game developers! Their hearts have reached me!
