Hey br/o/s, I'd like to get into Trucking but have no money. Would it be wise to go with a company like Schneider or Swift or something like that? I know people are like "You make 20 cents a mile it's not worth it, they're shit." Right now I make 9 dollars an hour at a factory shit hole, so literally anything is better than that, plus, the 20 cents should only be for the first year, right? Last night was a solid 6/10 shitshow.

Fuel guy was over two hours late, and subsequently the burners ran out of diesel.

Once refilled, we had to rig out the heater truck in a hurry and zip over to priority heat some water storage tanks for a service rig that was in need.

That completed, repriming the truck once hooked back into the pit took a full hour of fucking around since we had to pull water uphill through the suction hoses. In the end we had to utilize a local vacuum truck to provide some additional suction to fill out our lines enough that our pumps could take over. All of this in -30°C weather, mind.

No. Idk what the deal is but that's the division of Pepsi that runs all of its trucks. My tax forms say "New Bern Transport" but everything else concerning my job is "PepsiCo" like health insurance cards and any other benefits. Only two places you see "New Bern" are on the side of the trucks and the tax forms.

With the driver cams, I think the only way I would agree to deal with it is if there was some agreement where they can only watch it if you are involved in an at-fault accident. That's reasonable on both ends.

Do you guys drink at all when you are out on the road, or would even a couple of beers before bed be enough to get you fired if anyone found out? And what kind of free time do you get in general? On trucking websites I read about people stopping to see tourist sights and shit but I always assumed you would be driving, then sleeping, and then driving and sleeping some more. If there is more to it than that what sorts of things do you do and how do you get the time to do it?

I think the law is you can't drive for 10 hours after drinking any alcohol, and if you blow anything above 0.04, it's bye bye license.

Pepsi has a retarded ass point system. Like you can "No call, no show" for a whole week before you get enough points for them to fire you. The dude who was on my route before me, he would show up between 30min and 2hrs late basically everyday for almost two years before they finally fired him. They didn't even start writing him up until the last few months when they got tired of him showing up at 8am and then it took weeks and weeks for him to actually rack up enough points to get canned.

But if you complain a lot and they just don't like you, one little complaint from a customer will get you fired.

The area I live in has a quarry so it's very commonplace to see trucks hauling huge loads of minerals or gravel or whatever bullshit they haul from a quarry

I have always been amazed by how fucking slow these things are. By the time these trucks are able to get up to speed and have their trailer clear the intersection, the light has already turned red. These faggots literally take 20 seconds+ to move 20 or so feet.

My question is: are they really that slow or are they just pussy footing around? I used to think cargo vans were slow but they aren't, teh drivers are just pussies

It's the 10spd+ manual transmissions. Could be a 13spd or 18spd. With the 10spd, 6th gear is normally good for 20-25mph. Plus big diesel engines don't rev real fast and when you are upshifting, it takes time for the RPMs to drop before you can get it into the next higher gear.

Well, in that 20 seconds they have probably gone through 6-8 gears, it isn't really that similar to a 4-wheeled vehicle at all
