My neighbor's ex husband shot himself in his car in her driveway late last night.
This made me wonder, What happens to cars if someone kills themselves in it?
I imagine if someone is murdered in a car it will be kept for evidence, But most suicides are open and shut. What happens to those cars?
I know in my state if you are selling/leasing a property which a violent death has occurred on in the last 8 years, The seller/landlord must disclose this.
Is this the same for cars?

Not sure about disclosure, but the car usually gets sold at a ridiculously low price because someone killed themselves in it.
I was also thinking, Crime scene clean up is almost always tens of thousands of dollars.
Wouldn't almost EVERY car be considered a total loss by insurance if someone made a claim on it and it was going to cost say...13k in clean up, Plus all the car panels/seats that were disposed of by the crime scene cleaners?

We had a thread a while back about a site for this. You could go search for cars on there and every now and then you would get one covered in blood on the inside. So no they don't clean them at all and they are considered a total loss.

When scrolling through an auction site keep an eye out for "bio-hazard" stickers slapped on the car, usually the windshield. The do this when there is blood or bodily fluids in the car, even if its a small amount.

Not from a murder/suicide, but once saw a car carrier hauling wrecks... on the top tier there was a Porsche convertible with the top all fucked/caved in, and "BIO" written on the driver door. Some poor bastard either rolled it or crashed into a low overhang (like a semi).

I remember seeing very gory detailed photos of the aftermath, I am sure you could find them if you looked hard enough.

Once had a dodge ram towed into our shop with crash damage on the left front and side up to the rear of the cab. It was written up for a complete inspection and i had to crawl in from the passenger side because the driver door was jacked. Ended up not needing much mechanically to get back on the road but i didnt find out til later that the guy had a heart attack in it and lost control of the truck, hit a wall and died inside of it. I was not happy about it. The guys wife wanted to keep it for memories I guess?

I used to work at a used car lot and we most definitely had people get shot in drive-by shootings and/or committed suicide in our vehicles. After the police were done with the car they were returned to us with whatever bits of the previous owner left in it. If the car was still in good shape and could be resold we would patch the bullet holes and pick up all the fleshy bits scrub the carpets/seats and throw that bitch back on the lot, also not required to inform the next buyer that someone died in it.

My mom used to do crime scene clean up. While I'm not sure about civilian cars, she had to clean up an F150 which had been involved in an Officer involved shooting where the officer died. They completely re-did everything and sent it back to the department where it became the Sheriff's personal vehicle.
While I do not encourage anyone to take their own life, if you do it and you live with people you love, do it in your car or something. If you hate them, then yeah, do it in the house. Crime scene clean up is a giant bitch to have to make your family go through.
