You can play whatever you want as a DPS honestly
They're just raw DPS.
Which honestly works fine everywhere else, but people have a real fucking hard time not fucking up every mechanic ever so they need more than an easy DPS check pass.
They bring the least utility but you can clear things fine with one. I've done it.
If you can pull your weight in DPS you'll still be alright but bear in mind the current top tier trial will fuck your DPS over in Phase 1 and that's where most of your DPS should be at to push a phase that everyone wants to skip.
You can clear everything with a MNK in the group, it's just that they offer far less utility than other jobs. The only thing they offer that can't be replaced (Dragon Kick's Int debuff via Delirium) is traited Mantra. Which, while really nice, is not necessary in this tier anyway because healing isn't an issue in this tier
Off the top of my head you get a unique Chocobo sword for Red Mage, some Ala Mhigan earrings, and I wanna say a Bartz minion or something.

Ninja is the only one that has true utility skills, and it's the most useful. Especially in a group with a DRK main tank that wants to optimize. People like dragoon because of its crit buff and the damage buff it can provide your ranged dps, but I don't think it's as "useful" as ninja, it's just powerful.

DRG is the only reason ranged are so powerful currently, because taking 2 effectively doubles the usefulness of disembowel.
