It's just a extended version of ELO that attempts to account for pick-up teams. It doesn't account for games being multi-role or multi-character.

If valve was really smart they would use something that goes past the predictive power of naive bayes like neural networks.

yes because of boosted accounts. A boosted 5k account can give away 1000 points of MMR to others. You dont really see 8k boosted accounts because they're expensive as fuck so the skill rating between 6-8k is pretty accurate. However the 5k accounts give free MMR to 4k players which in turn give free mmr to 5k players etc etc causing this dead zone where the skill level is completely unknown. Theres far too much variance in skill level in the 4-5k bracket

It's time to let go lads. The successor (the soul) of Defense of the Ancients has fallen into uncaring hands who have for years tried to morph the game into something it's not. That Warcraft 3 mod we all used to shittily play on the family computer is no longer here, no longer thriving. We deserve, and it deserves, to move on. grind bot games for dozens of hours to reach the bare minimum experience to unlock core features. grind hundreds more hours to unlock the necessary features to put you on par with everyone for each of the five rigid roles. then you can finally play the game without starting out gimped with lower stats than everyone else in the game.
