Ladas keep appearing for sale about 100 miles south of me, I think it's a sign that I should get one. Is ~$10,000 a fair price for a like-new late-Soviet-era Lada? Keep in mind that I'm in the US not Yurop.

Russian made cars are terrible.

They're all working hard in the salt mines, thanks to a flawless political system, which now has Poland under martial law! Personally, i am very excited to get my very own polonez. It has airconditioning, convientally located next to the window winder. All i have to do, according to FSO, is just push it open. The passenger side floorboard can be removed to access over a frozen pond, so you can fish in it. Not even a maybach has that kind of a feature! Not to mention heated rear window, for those times it gets... "Italian". It's quirky, but is the best thing that has come out of our country, since the discovery of beer, vodka, and sausages. Yes. I'm giving it that a high of a praise. As you can imagine, my family is excited too. It's rather expensive though. We've been eating bread and garlic for the past 5 weeks. In fact, we've even had to cut down on the turnip soup we often have for supper. Our neighbour, funny enough, moved in from east germany with his trabant. It makes a funny noise, and the kids complain about having asthma attacks. I told them it's nothing, and if they continue to complain, i will report them to the police. I'm not a sociopath, and totally not upset about the current regime. In fact, if we had the option to vote, i'd vote jaruzelski without question. As i type this, i imagine he and his group of internet spies are making sure things are doing well here. I trust everyone will behave, seeing as that is the way things should be. After all, i wouldn't want a T-55 knocking down my door either.

delet this

>internet spies
phony detected, if you were a real Polack you'd know that the MPB's preferred method of surveillance is giving someone a """"free"""" cabinet that for some reason has to be wired to a generator parked on the street outside.

btw, Wałęsa called, he wants his propaganda back :^)

I'm not familiar with prices in the US, but I can make a comparison with situation around here.

1,000 means it's in good condition and maybe even roadworthy
1,500+ you can probably drive right away
3,000+ well maintained, modified and probably in somewhat pristine condition

Price I'm talking is euro, but there's just a 0.06 difference between the currencies.
Given the fact that's also imported so you may want to add shipping costs it may actually be a reasonable price depending on the state of the car. Bonus points if all paper-work is properly done.

>East Germany is best Germany

Late commie cars are actually the worse ones because the tooling was more and more worn down and inaccurate.

>tfw no angry chop-top trabant

On a scale from 1 to the USA, how decadent would it be to change the engine of your Trabi, Wartburg or Zapo to take advantage of their light weight and go faster than the Volkspolizei wiht just a relatively powerful engine instead of the 2 stroke?

the solution is to use one of the people's engines, a lada-powered trabant would be a champion of the proletariat

>3,000+ well maintained, modified and probably in somewhat pristine condition
that's what I've heard as far as the Eurpoean market goes. I don't know what import costs are but I doubt that it's 7,000 burgerbux. The ones I see are pretty much completely pristine with very low miles.

>Late commie cars are actually the worse ones because the tooling was more and more worn down and inaccurate.
huh, good to know.

>tfw no rotary trabi
it would be the ultimate meme machine.

I saw one posted on the Chicago craigslist once, it was a white sedan in bretty gud condition, and it was listed for $10,000. Not there any more so it must have gone at some price

Not only are Soviet cars old ugly and unreliable, but they were ugly and unreliable back when they were new! That's a good thing too considering most comrades couldn't afford one.

>Not only are Soviet cars old ugly
>ugly
Get outta here. Shoo. Shoo.

Most people already do an engine swap anyway. You can take the advice from and use a Lada engine or search for an equivalent.

I actually thought of using a Fiat engine if I get a Trabant on my hands. Worst part may be the emissions and taxes which might want to make you consider a newer engine.

Alternatively you can use Polo engines on Wartburg or Trabant as late models had them and maybe you can go for a Polo 4 engine or go for a Dacia engine to keep the commie feel.

I just want to build a complete meme-machine and catch up with brodudes in Porsches thanks to the sovietic equivalent of the Caterham effect.

Alright dude, here's your (You) for today.

>be me 24, minimal mechanic skill's
>monitoring this swamped commie car for ~ 1year
>price getting lower and lower
>building it by myself could not reach a price this low
>haven't checked it because it's a 8 hour ride
>with some little mods it's the car i wan't
should is spend some of my buy a house saving's, into a unreliable monypit only i like?

What's Veeky Forums's opinion on Oltcit Club 12 TRS?

>61 HP

>door opens without jamming
>engine starts in less than a second of cranking the starter

Video is fake, that's some kind of fiero with a bodykit, not a real lada.

Whoah, I got mine for 150 $ few years ago and it was in a pretty good shape.

just do a full drive train swap with an 80's-90's FWD jap engine. it would be cheap and the wheel bases are similar.

Probably you'll regret if you had the chance and didn't do it. I'm looking forward for buying a house in the future aswell (if by some magic I don't inherit some property), but if I had an ocassion to buy my dreamshitbox and I passed it, damn I'd be full of remorse.

Isn't it pure Citroën Axel, but built in Ro? I saw a few ones around and sadly they keep getting more and more rare. My neighbour had one back in 2005, but sold it for a Laguna.

Never mind, maybe next time.

Keep the 2 stroke, trust me, that is 99% of the character.

Heh, I know that feel. Everytime there is a nicelookin' cheap P50 on mobile.de or ebay-Kleinanzeigen it is either "ohne papier" or vanishes rather quickly anyway.

I have the cash to buy one, not bring it into the country sadly. Still dreaming though, still dreaming.

Does Warti use the same oil-gas mixture as Trabi? Saw people swapping Trabant engines with Warburg ones.

>Persian rug floor mat

Every dirty amateur Russian porno features these fucking rugs in peoples' homes. On the floor, hanging on the walls, as bed sheets, and apparently as floor mats too. What's up with that?
