Dantes succeeded completely in his goal and got what he wanted, Kerry realised his entire lifes goal was a mistake then let his adopted son carry on his mistake. And he screwed over his daughters life.

I mean, he literally had to sacrifice everything he loved for his wish. Not that Edmond didn't endure stuff, but I'd think dedicating your entire life and everything you cherish to a single goal kinda counts.

Kerry despaired and died without really achieving anything, and most of his despair was from his own actions.

Dantes on the other hand was dealt the worse despair from a third party, escaped hell and performed succesfully a really elaborate and karmic vengeance on the ones who did that to him, that now were one of the most powerful men in France. And he wasn't even punished by it and got a new princess slave girl waifu on the process.
