I went to look at it today and the thing is well put together aside from the rust. The mechanic they took it to rebuilt the carb so currently the idle is at a ridiculous 3k, but that's definitely fixable. If my tax return is sizeable, I might purchase the little dude and use it for rallycross or whatever and just trailer it about until I can figure out how to get a bonded title for it.

Probably nothing, It's just a 16 year old ford ranger. It's not gonna be a 4 grand truck like an f150 from the same year.

I mean if you like the thing, like I said $2k for something that runs and drives reliably is always straight. But I think you can get something similar for a lot cheaper and will have some extra money for shit that needs to be replaced. And remember old vehicles with low mileage are still old vehicles. Lots of shit wears out whether or not it is being driven. But that truck reminds me of an old ass F-250 my neighbor got from his grandpa a few years back. Floorboards were rusted out but those American V8s will last fucking forever as long as you keep a little oil and gas in them.

Same goes for most American trucks, SUVs, and sedans with 6cyl or 8cyl engines through the early 2000s. And parts are always cheap and plentiful. Any Ranger, F-Series, Explorer, Blazer, etc or larger sedan should be pretty reliable as long as they weren't totally neglected. If you go newer than '97 you get OBDII so more electronics but stuff can also be easier to diagnose. Fleet pickups like that Ferd are nice tho because less bells and whistles means less little shit to break.
