I love cars that are good no matter where they are made and I don't understand why certain Japanese Domestic Market fans insist that everything JDM is better. Like honestly I get that the GTR is a good car, even a marvel of engineering. But at the same time I would much rather take a Cadillac CTS-V because in my opinion it is a much better car. And I do not discriminate by where it's made, I just like the CTS-V more because it has room, the numbers on it are good, etc, its comfy af, and the magnetic ride suspension

The R33 GTR is already legal to import, provided you have it converted by JK technologies. They are the only company legally allowed to convert R33 GTS-T's and GTR's to US spec.

Nope. If all the paperwork is in order, and the conversion was done, legally, they can't impound it. You can sue for bullshit like that.

though granted, before the car is even registered, it does have to be inspected by the DMV and be confirmed to meet US emissions so you can get a title for it. Part of the conversion DOES involve a structural change. They have to add bars in the doors to meet US 1997 side impact crash standards.
But again. if all that is in order, the car is legal.

Having a 180km/h limiter is a legal requirement for any car driven on a public road in Japan. A nip can privately import the newest BOOGAWTEE and still has to have the limiter put on by the gubmint at the border in order to get a plate for it. The UKDM models of the GTR were limited to 155mph along with many other domestic market cars, some of which can do 200mph with the limiters removed when given the space.

I wouldn't be surprised if these things could hit 170mph like their competitors could demonstrably do with the governors removed but the meme status as a top speed tuner is so strong that no one has ever tried it with an otherwise stock example.
