Yeah that does happen, but that doesn't stop them from dominating other fighting games. I don't believe in the west when it comes to fighting games. The work ethic is shit for a lot of players. I don't believe Melee is some weird exception to this. I think Smash 4 will increasingly become more volatile as years go by because that smash 4 community is rather young compared to the more traditional scenes of Japan that has a bunch of legacy players.

Listen, what you guys don't understand is that modern fighting games don't need content. "Content" was necessary in your shitty 15 year old anime games because infrastructure wasn't at the point of consistenly good netplay yet so you needed stuff to keep you busy offline. SFV understands this and therefore ignores the offline and singleplayer aspect of the game in turn for deep and complex gameplay that will you keep you busy for years since you will always have online opponents to play against. Think about it: all games with supposedly good single player content like MKX or GGXrd are completely dead and have barely any players left.
Now you might be saying that even SFV's online is shit because of the netcode (which I have never had problems with btw) but if anything the netcode is a good thing, because it filters out all the people with sub par connections and leaves only those with decent ones to play online, improving the overall experience. Again games with supposedly good netcode like Skullgirls are completely irrelevant and dead.
Overall: stop telling people to play your shitty anime games and just recommend newbies a real fighting game like SFV instead.
