yes
Wyatt Campbell
Lots of info in the OP!
I haven't played since original pre-DLC XCOM2, but I'm a veteran of the original Long Dong. Any recommendations on where to begin for a new game?
Are the current modlists updated?
Is Long Dong 2 a worthy successor?
Please drop some fucking knowledge on me, anons.
Lincoln Jones
If you haven't played XC2 vanilla you will have a bad time. If you play XC2 vanilla, and then LW2 you will have a bad time. LW2 doesn't play anything like LW1 and at times actively discourages combat.
Jace Evans
Never got around to playing original Long Dong, since I'm a filthy game-stealer who steals games and WOULD download a car, but Dong Harder adds a assload of depth to the strat level and a wider variety of options at campaign start. I'm liking it. Now if I can only figure out this whole "not losing" thing...
Adrian Young
Toss smoke grenades outside of the skyranger so your troops PROBABLY won't get murdered after stepping out.
Also, flares are your friend in night missions, and you can re throw them if you pick them up off the ground
Jace Hernandez
>Panicking twice in a single mission Dammit Doc get it together
Killed the Big Slime fucking regenerating health?
Ethan Young
Ok. So for research you still rush lasers. Hire enough dudes to start and fill up your skyranger to full (14) and then load up on scientists. You will want more scientists before engineers. Use smoke grenades as they actually break LOS in this game. Explosives are still king. Explosive damage is the most reliable damage type. Load up as many soldier as you can with nades, HE bricks, Heavy canons with HE rounds, and have a rocketeer or two. Do not exit your skyranger on turn 1. All aliens have full reactions score and will cut down your people as they exit. Instead, smoke your ramp and wait for them to move around. Make sure to get a large radar up asap as well as alien containment. Stun rods are purchased from the market. You will need to engage ayys at close range. Build your base so that the access lift and Hangar are seperate from the rest of your buildings. This is because in base assaults, the aliens infiltrate through these points, so it makes for a good defensible chokepoint. If you can avoid night missions do not go on them. If you can't avoid night missions, bring electro-flares. Laser rifles are extremely good once you get those. Auto-fire is almost always the most efficient fire mode for both chance to hit and damage. Sell all your ayy corpses and most of your plasma weaponry for mad cash. You can manufacture and sell some items as a source of income (see laser canons, but medkits and laser pistols also work). As soon as you have enough cash to set up a base, you probably want to. Consdier your radar coverage for base placement. I think a Middle East base that covers all of Europe is the best starting location.
That's alot of stuff off the top of my head. Go to UFOpaedia if you have specific game mechanic questions. Read through the in-game ufopaedia to understand all the equipment you have in game. Have fun.
Benjamin Martin
You're a helpful guy
worse than what I had hoped but overall not the end of the world.
a fellow human friend say hi to it with the earthly tradition of filling his lack of face full of lead
Luis Smith
His banter was top notch.
>"How much ammunition did you even bring?" >"You do realize I can still hear you, right?"
Jaxson King
I got him alright
Asher Carter
uhhh fuck?
Jaxson Clark
His voice set is honestly the best in the game, up there with some of the best mods.
>they are crouching, I am using science >do I get a medal for this? >STOMP STOMP
Rapid Response is free experience
Jackson White
>more XP and mission rewards >more XP and easy overwatch traps You're right, this is a tough choice.
Wyatt Murphy
I beat vanilla 2.
>If you play XC2 vanilla, and then LW2 you will have a bad time. So a refresher run with the dlc won't really be much good, then?
Levi Lopez
Not really. First watch the introduction video on youtube because there's a metric fuckton of important information they didn't even bother to tell ingame let alone link on their mod page.
Seriously, they have 0 official documentation on almost every mechanic except for a few brief explanatory tooltips on certain missions.
Robert Torres
>Generals wear monocles classy
Joseph Taylor
good be wary when getting close to civilians on those missions and avoid using cars as cover
Liam Reed
There's a tumor on every terror mission? >cars If I learned anything from Ew its that cars are a death sentence.
James Russell
Thanks for the heads up.
Joshua Parker
I'm trying to make a voice pack but this error keeps showing up:
>The following packages have references to external packages: >External packages won't be found when in a game and all references will be broken
What did I do wrong?
Justin Scott
yes, and there is no way to tell them apart until they reveal or you use some kind of scanning device or ability
Gavin Davis
How would I transfer the files from this game onto a new PC? I can't re download it thanks to my internet being fucked temporarily.
I used Steam to buy it btw
Leo Wright
>There's a tumor on every terror mission?
Atleast two on every retaliation. If you kill all the other enemies on the map they'll reveal themselves automatically
Camden Cooper
there's a backup function in Steam.
I'm not going to tell you where because it's very obvious if you actually look for it.
Jason Green
On Veteran LW2, did I fuck up if I don't have Lasers and I've already encountered Mutons?
Luis Hughes
I think I found it, right-click on a game and select backup game files.
Do I need to manually transfer the game files onto the new PC into the steamapps folder or does steam do that itself with the backup function?
Nathaniel Powell
Copy the files you're going to make over to a new PC, and use Steam to extract them.
Owen Garcia
literally the only strategy in xcom 2 is gaming pods to fight them one at a time
its the shallowest "strategy" game ever made
Justin Morris
That's what is known as "tactics". Not "strategy".
Not disagreeing that vanilla nu-COM strategy layer is pretty shallow.
Lucas Martin
The ADVENT tower missions made me legit fucking quit LW2.
Narrow maps where you're railroaded into using 5 people to fight enemies who have indestructible cover while you have half cover in easily flanked positions. If you get a bad map, you can have literally only 1 path. And reinforcements spawn.
Don't feed me the "LW is difficult" shit. Even an early Slingshot wasn't this fucking retarded in LW1. LW1 always, ALWAYS felt fair. This is just fucking ridiculously difficult to satiate meme faggots like the retards here who think something being pointlessly difficult is good game design.
Nathaniel Jenkins
>LW1 always, ALWAYS felt fair.
Gavin Hall
>LW1 always, ALWAYS felt fair. This is how I know you're completely full of shit, friendo.
Michael Peterson
Name a time that LW made you play a mission you had absolutely no way out of that put you in a no-win situaiton.
Sure, sometimes you get abductions or whatever where your LZ is absolutely swamped. OK, get in the Skyranger and go home.
You HAVE to do the ADVENT Tower. There is absolutely 0 strategy involved in this map because it can literally be 100% linear and you literally cannot progress the campaign without doing it.
Brayden Campbell
>You HAVE to do the ADVENT Tower. Whenever you want to.
Easton Walker
I agree, the S shaped map is pure bullshit considering that reinforcements will come even when in concealement
Jordan Nelson
Now it's telling me 'could not find part of the path'
Did I set up modbuddy wrong? What am I doing?
Alexander Baker
That has literally no bearing on the fact that the map was not designed for something like LW2.
Its simply not fun. Fighting 13~ Ayys because there is only 1 path and they all patrol around it and you're stuck on the shitty walkway isn't fun. You can't play around it, you can't outthink it. Its a numbers and terrain game you have no control over.
Isaiah Nelson
>OK, get in the Skyranger and go home
And then the panic goes though the roof
I like LW2 because the simple reason of i dont have to do shit i dont want to, fuck extracting or killing that VIP or doing supply raids.
If i dont do those missions i dont get a penalty of losing the entire fucking region, also the ADVENT tower is like the alien base of LW1, sooner or later you will have to do them if you dont have enough counties to go around.
Adrian Morales
In LW1 you could bring 10 people to an Alien Base and despite being linear, there was ample cover could be done methodically.
ADVENT Tower is a fucking hurrfest.
Jayden Adams
jesus christ now Xcom 2 Editor isn't launching at all past the splash screen, what the fuck is happening?
Benjamin Stewart
Sounds like a target-rich environment for the judicious application of explosives, to me.
Jordan Parker
>Rookie has 12 hack and 56 aim >Commanders Choice him from fucking game-chosen Sniper class to Specialist >His hack goes to 47
This mod is fucking worthless.
Ryder Harris
Except a lot of the cover is indestructible.
I rocketed and naded something a Pectoid was hiding behind on one of the walkways. Didn't break.
(And yes, the Grenadier fucking had Sapper)
Gavin Gutierrez
just leave the mission until later, it's not like you have to do it as soon as it pops
John Brooks
I was thinking more of the "guaranteed damage" aspect of explosives, personally. Then again, Long War would make relying on that a little bit more of a risk.
Still. Nobody promised you a rose garden.
Blake Morales
Fresh bagels WHEN?!
Isaiah Young
is the gts tactic causing more bleed outs really worth it in long war? 300 supplies is potentially 7-8 pre leveled recruits from the black market if you need the replacements
Kayden Price
depends on when you get it, no? Either early on when those survivors will add up, or so late you're swimming in supplies.
Juan Nelson
WHERE IS THE LW2 UPDATE REEEEEEEE
Joseph Morales
That's just the gremlin.
Dominic Myers
...
Nathaniel Wilson
Does the how early you try a dlc mission effect the difficulty at all?
Jeremiah Morgan
CLOSE
Jackson King
RANGE?
Hudson Cruz
Where do I click to buy new staff/change scan perk in LW2? All I see is haven management
Joseph Diaz
>you can graze on a 100% I fully understand the mechanic
that is still retarded though
Lincoln Brown
Why does this bullshit crack me up everytime?
Hudson White
Wish the Alien Hunters mod had missions or required you to down rulers to get the weapons. It feels so cheat-y just starting off the game with 'oh, here is a package of weapons you just happen to cross'
Gavin Young
>LW1 >chugging along into middle of october >some bumps and bruises here and there >haven't lost many soldiers >2 full A-team style squads and some lower level B-team dudes available >haven't encountered heavy floaters yet >small ufo lands >send out some chumps >first blue move with motion tracking scout >2 floater pods a mix of regular and heavy >4 mutons >4 muton elites >a lid thrown in for good measure >nades and suppression everywhere >can only watch as the ayys rape everything before them
was this a trap? was i bamboozled by the ayys?
Jose James
Well, you need to do the mission to upgrade the weapons.
Ryan Evans
>he walked up to the clown car
John Martinez
Which voice packs do user use and which do you think are awful?
Joshua Cox
What the hell is this "unknown causes" expense in LW2? How does one make money in LW2?
Jayden Lopez
faceless among the ranks. need to put a squaddie in as an adviser to flush it out.
alternatively, what is google?
Luke White
>taking the snap shot perk removes squadsight Wow great mod.
Levi Brown
>Haven Defense >Haven has 17 people, have to do it >AO Defense >My Staff Sargent Gunner starts out on fire >Move 1 tile >Pop 4 pods next to each other with Mutons and Vipers (Haven't seen either yet) >Reinforcements still come every turn >9 turns till evac
Well that was fucking stupid. Pretty much just lost me the whole game losing the 9 soldiers (and ALL the fucking gear) there. I thought AO defense started with no enemies but they spawned every turn.
Hunter Smith
But it doesn't
Nicholas Nelson
>taking screenshots with your phone
There's nothing screaming harder "I'm a retard" than that.
Hudson Garcia
nigger wat r u doing
Colton Morris
I never understood why people can't handle this. It's way quicker.
Liam Sullivan
>Ctrl+print screen >open paint, paste, save >slower
I really hope the person who wrote that is using English as a second-language, otherwise it is depressingly autistic.
Christian Hill
>ps2. >Warning: XCOM is not the only one using them. >You must be prepared for the Unexpected situation' at ADVENT headquarters. >magical ADVENT girls What the fuck do you have to be smoking to come up with that shit?
Noah Cruz
WE'VE GOT HOSTILES
Really makes me wish for a mod where you could color different parts of the outfit different camos/colors.
I mean, the grunt commander's hat needs to be red, it's impossible to get a black blaklava on the shotgun grunt, tower's cap needs to be a solid green, as well as the standard grunts helmets need to be a green camo while their uniforms are just black and white.
Really frustrating.
Carter Wright
Weebshit was a mistake.
Hudson Scott
>Operation sensational slap-fight
Dylan Myers
And while I'm at it I'll post the never ever montage
Austin Sanders
Sell ayy corpses and useless attachments like stocks.
Lincoln Diaz
>using stocks end your turn
I think this will be changed
Nathaniel Williams
Why would you want to make it obvious who's the unit commander? Easiest way to get your officers sniped, which isn't operator at all.
