what's stopping me from buying a 240sx? are they really as shit as people say they are? I want aut/o/'s opinion, and be specific, not just shit-talk. anyone have any stories?
What's stopping me from buying a 240sx? are they really as shit as people say they are? I want aut/o/'s opinion...
>what's stopping me from buying a 240sx?
Me.
I'm literally going to wrestle you to the ground every time you leave your house.
No homo.
Also you should buy one, I had a 180sx years ago, good times. The performance isn't going to blow your mind, but it's a stupidly fun car, they look great and are cheap as fuck to maintain.
Although you might struggle to find one that hasn't been thrashed/modded to all shit.
Recently I got into the idea of owning a tuner because ae86s exist and when i realized that parts are scarce and expensive, i thought of getting a newer one..
I'm fairly new in the whole car fanatic scene. I've mostly been a vidya fag my whole life so I don't know about the hierarchy system this board seems to have, but right now I'm between a 240sx, a civic, and a supra (which is really far into the I can't find a non-modded one area)
If it isn't already thrashed, it's rusting. I don't care what anyone tells you, this thing will have rust in the most god forsaken places
What you should get is a LSx5
My brother had an S13 hatch. It was fun, but it wasn't anything special. And since then, they've become impossible to find for a decent price since everyone wants them for a drift missile.
Fuck that
You can get better performance and similar handling from a modified GM F-body (1982-2002 Camaro and Firebird) or Ford Fox car (1979-2004 Mustang and assorted sister cars).
If you have to avoid V8 models, go for the F-twins.
240sx is a shit car because it has a garbage Mexican truck engine
180sx is good because it has a newer Japanese engine with VVT, designed for cars
The SR20 was a shit engine. I can't stand that everyone worships it. The CA engines that preceeded it were so much better.
or this
Go for the 240sx, its a good deal better handling than the supra (Im assuming 3rd gen) and its rear wheel drive unlike the civic. Basically if you want to be able to drift get the 240 if you dont get the civic.
>Sr20 is a shit engine
>stronger and makes more power, easier, than ca18
>more widely available
>fucking cheap everything
Yeah but the sr20 is shit because it sounds like a truck engine and retards worship it... get your head out of your ass
No, they weren't, though I'd say if you already have a 240sx, you shouldn't bother swapping.
i keep hearing that they're expensive but i've found quite a few, none breaking 5k.
have any history with finding rust in weird ass places? If I go through with this I want to know what I'm getting into. I've driven an '02 automatic Celica my entire life and I'm ready to own something fun and learn shit about cars. tl;dr i'm ready to not be a faggot.
If I recall correctly, 3rd gen supras are the ones everyone fetishizes thus jacking up the price. Like rx-7s

How much would anyone here be willing to pay for something like this?
There's a longer list of tuner cars to look into with decent aftermarket. Not just the Japanese made tuners.
>Saturn Ion/Chevrolet Cobalt
>Chevrolet Cavalier/Pontiac Sunfire/Toyota Cavalier
>Nissan Sentra/Infiniti G20
>Nissan Maxima/Infiniti I30/Infiniti I35
>Volkswagen Golf/Jetta/New Beetle
>Volkswagen Passat/Audi A4
>Subaru Impreza/Legacy/Forester
>Honda Civic/Acura Integra/Acura RSX
>Honda Accord/Honda Prelude/Acura TL
>Ford Focus/Mazda 3
>Ford Escort/Mazda Protege/Mazda 323
>Dodge/Plymouth Neon/Chrysler PT Cruiser
>Dodge Shadow (pic related)/Plymouth Sundance/other Chrysler K-cars
see yeah I've thought of Civics, Golfs, Sentras, Jettas, and Imprezas.
but you apparently didn't look at their sister cars
killeen.craigslist.org
sanmarcos.craigslist.org
My problem is I don't mind if it's been modded, I just don't want it to be riced out and terrible.
apparently not, no. I like Cobalts though.
Plenty. I live right by the beach.
-Roof skin water channel, and where the glass hatch trunk bolts on
-Spare tire well
-Radiator core support area
-Firewall
-Front strut tower area
-Door jamb and where the door is connected to the frame
-All areas where the front fenders bolt onto the frame
-Underneath the windshield cowl
Basically it's an old fucking car, if it's never been garaged then it's just going to be worse. A lot of the areas where the factory body sealant was is now cracking because of age and exposure. Where there's cracks, water and moisture can get in and rust can form and just eat the body away from the inside to out. I'm determined to save mine only because it's one owner, never modified and low miles
man i just want a cheap to maintain, car that i can have fun with. If you wouldn't recommend a 240, what would you recommend?
MX-5
hahahahahahaha
>buying a car in NYC
lol anyway thats worth $1500 but the owner will not prob budge on the price.
No one says 240s are shit. What people say is that they aren't worth getting because there aren't any unmolested/non-rotting ones left out there.
Nah 4gen has the big rice tax
The only correct answer is a Fox Body Mustang
Drift tax is stopping you. Then again, there aren't many good examples left, so the laws of supply and demand are in effect. Budget $4k to get a decent car. Don't buy anyone's failed project. Enjoy.
i've thought about them but since they were made in the 80s i was thinking unless i get a '93 model i'd be in the same position i'd be in if i bought an ae86
Buy a 4th gen F-body then.
Or fuck, an SN95.
Finding either of those in okish to good shape is far easier than finding a 240 that hasn't been completely destroyed.
burgershit parts are available and cheap the only problem is the cars themselves are complete garbage without thousands dumped into them and the interior is always going to be awful
Id just go for a 240SX or Integra/Civic
would those still be in tuner category or would that fall under muscle? Bonus points if the car is easy to learn so i can pick up on car management.
no theyre under muscle
the american tuner cars are
Cobalts
Focuses
Cavaliers
Neons
Probes (even though they are Mazdas)
all those turbo Mopars
I've put in a lot of thought into civics because I think they're beautiful cars, but never Acuras. My mom owns a TL that treats her alright but if I did own one I'd want an Integra.
>man i just want a cheap to maintain, car that i can have fun with. If you wouldn't recommend a 240, what would you recommend?
S13 arent expesive where i live like s14 are.
S13 is 6k while s14 is 60k for god knows what fucking reason.
Hey guys not OP but what do you think of this one?
dallas.craigslist.org
Think it's a timebomb?
>$6k
>For a 25 year old turd
Fucking mental
There's also the Saturn Ion (sister to the Cobalt) and Chrysler PT Cruiser (sister to the Neon), Dodge Caliber (sister to the Mitsubishi Lancer), Ford Escort (sister to the Mazda Protege), and the Pontiac Sunfire (sister to the Cavalier)
If you're going to say an option is stupid, provide your idea of a better car than a 240 in terms of what OP is looking for.
There have been a million suggestions in this thread.
240s are absolute shit cars. Its easy to find something better.
Like an e90 corolla
You can buy an 8th gen Civic Si for 6k.
A 350z, an RSX type s, fuckin bugeye wrx even
>would those still be in tuner category or would that fall under muscle?
Muscle, but most tuner cars are FWD, while the 240 you're lusting after is RWD. That's why I suggested RWD cars.
They aren't expensive and typically in a bit better shape because nobody's tried to drift them (or if they did, they didn't fucking crash and half-ass a rebuild)
Another idea is an RX-8, but I doubt you'd want a car that requires an engine rebuild as soon as you buy it.
done. And oh look. It's the same price.
buy one, even if it's thrashed they're still fun
ka no sr you bitch
...
...
I like scrapping 240s
i've gotten some good responses and to be real i might just go with a civic. I found one for 800 with a rebuilt transmission and a bad motor. Which is fine because I want to put a new one in with my brother.
never driven one but would still buy if the price was right and wasn't in shit condition
>>Volkswagen Passat/Audi A4
tuning scene for these is full of stancefags now
a friend was big in the tuner scene for the B5, bought one new, had to sell their car because the meets have been co-opted by vapelords
y'know, im not mad about that picture, because all those parts went to people who needed them to keep theirs running, and more stock parts going back on is nice to me.
>would those still be in tuner category or would that fall under muscle
Muscle can be modded too. As a cheap platform to work with old Mustangs are great.
There is one sitting in my driveway missing:
>smog
>dash wiring harness
>MAF
>registration
has an sr20det though lol.
one day.
KA24de is shit bruh, they has LS1 kits in your burgerland or put an RB26dett in her
RB26 would be stupid
KA24 is a fine engine as long as you turbo it
yeah buy a fwd car instead
I saw a Nissan S12 at the gas station when I was getting beer. I said to the girl driving "nice s12" and shes like "the red one? its my boyfriends. awesome little car i love it. he just started to let me drive it." I think she was tweaking her bf probably shouldnt let her drive it. Was a cool car to see out in the wild though.
