When somebody asks about your car, saying a one syllable word that portays the meaning correctly is perfectly acceptable

Both are correct but the second gets the meaning across while taking less time to say

Everyone calls it a stick shift. My gf didn't even know it was called a manual transmission, just knew it as a stick shift.

Since we started dating over a year ago, she has learned a lot about cars and I've slowly been teaching her to drive stick. Just in case I ever become incapacitated or knocked out and she needs to be able to drive my car.

Meanwhile my ex was the one who taught me to drive stick in her 90s impreza in a parking lot in 15 minutes. Lol crazy.
