/egg/ Engineering Games General - Formerly /svgg/

A-10 Warthind Edition
Previous thread:The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for retards:

first for hiro fix your goddamn serbs you cheap nipponese jew

Second for ridiculously small drone.

Third for highly weaponized abortion brick.

3rd for gas the marek.

nth for rod logic

Has anyone been to the center of the galaxy in abortion yet?

How?

What would a game made by every /egg/man look like? What would it look like if kerbniggers infiltrated and tainted the project?

What are they used for?

Destroying anything that doesn't have lasers for dirt cheap.

Planet based logistics in an RTS type view using established shipping routes and factories with water based NPC pirates preying on cargo ships, supplying resources to a spaceport construction facility where individual blocks are created ground up from physical and electrical connections that can be manipulated mechanically, hydraulically or electrically (with computers you have to construct yourself) with rare higher end materials in asteroid belts in the outer solar system.

>"Dare you enter my autistic realm?" scenario
Voxel building game with detailed atmospheric simulation and soft body physics, various materials with simulated properties and building system that makes use of it, allowing players to create many things with various unintended effects like spontaneous nuclear fission, but not confining them to simple forms like cubes and wedges, allowing creation of various curves.
Set in a universe mostly conforming to laws of physics, with instanced systems and procedurally-generated void sectors. Populated with both naturally evolved and player-created organisms, consisting of various parts and organs, with programmed chemical reactions happening inside, all defined through it's genetic code.
Next to nothing is hardcoded and everything is highly modular, allowing unprecedented moddability.
>What would it look like if kerbniggers infiltrated and tainted the project?
It works on java.

>realistic scenario
We go full Chucklefish, except every guy is the idea guy and we have only two coders.
>What would it look like if kerbniggers infiltrated and tainted the project?
We merge with actual Chucklefish and Digital Extremes, with Tiy and Steverino personally overseeing the development and monetization.

I'm up to the blue shit, debating remaking my ship in blue. Then there was some weird glitch where the blocks in build mode jiggled all over the fucking place, even when shrunk all the way, so I quit the game. Now I'm here.

>We merge with actual Chucklefish and Digital Extremes
If this happened, I'd steal the music code, alter it for plausible deniability then give it to Redigit

>Send ship to asteroid belt because need resources for planet
>trip takes months
>Time warp to destination
>Planet bases go to complete shit because left unattended for game-months
Alternatively
>Send ship to asteroid belt because need resources for planet
>trip takes months
>Let the ship go while you take care of bases
>Can't do shit on land for months because you are waiting for ship to come back
>Forced to spend hours housekeeping your base

Doesn't seem like fun desu
You can't really have a complete experience both in space and on land, so in your game you would have to completely automate the space business and probably even assume it takes advantage of FTL travel so you don't have to wait forever or you would have to oversimplify things on land so you can enjoy the space stuff.
You can't really have both, the time scales are too different if you want to make stuff remotely realistic

My capable shoebox of death.

I wonder where the specialists go when you dismiss them.I hope they don't get spaced.

Fcuk.

I know it's not what most /egg/men are looking for but I'd like to see a fantasy setting engineering game, with real-world laws aside from basic newtonian physics replaced with a semi-randomized magic system. Instead of reading up on the most efficient ways of creating the machine you want you'd have to discover how the particular world functions and then build around it.
For example you might want to make a self-powered, controllable car to ride. But instead of picking from a list of preset engine parts to make your cart move, you might want to research if you'd get more power by confining a tornado spirit into an axle or chaining up some reanimated owls and telling them to start turning their heads.

So should I buy Avorion or not

Every post i see that makes me want to get Avorion is inevitably followed by one that makes me want to wait and vice versa

They don't go anywhere, they just sit in their cabins and become NEETs.
Space NEETs.

>a fantasy setting engineering game, with real-world laws aside from basic newtonian physics replaced with a semi-randomized magic system.
>Instead of reading up on the most efficient ways of creating the machine you want you'd have to discover how the particular world functions and then build around it.
>multiple worlds with laws of magic varying between them that you have to research
Non-minecrap Thaumcraft-like fantasy /egg/ game when?
Is it still /egg/ if it's fantasy? Granted, magic means some serious fuckery with laws of physics, but aside from that, you'd still have engineering problems in need of a solution. Whether technological or magical.

Pirate, play, buy if you feel like it.
IT'S NOT HARD

/egg/ is about the autism of fucking around with in-depth game mechanics, not necessarily the realism of the game.

Not to mention that there's even a goddamn demo on the official site, which is a rare fucking occurrence these days.

Clang does not settle for page 10.

I reall, really reall want an MMORTSRPG Engineering, Survival and City Building game in a procedural post-apocalyptic world full of zombies:

-The world starts with some procedural communities with NPC survivors, which can in turn create more communities.

-NPCs can starve, and any dead NPC becomes a zombie.

-Players possess a random, pre-existing NPC somewhere safe, and are no diferent than NPCs other than being human controlled; you won't magically know the name of someone you meet, you'll have to assign them a name based on what you're told; expect liars, and players pretending to be NPCs.

-Food and resources are scarce, so you have to trade or even raid other communities. Alternatively, you can go full treasure hunter on a nearby zombie infested city or destroyed community.

-You'll need some logistics on that commerce, start on escort missions for caravans, end up going full OTTD with trucks, trains, ships and planes.

-Wether you're making love or war you'll need to design weapons, engines, vehicles and shit, so you've got to ake items out of other items with variables that could be modified.

-Created the design, now you need the factory: think Factorio, but every assembler is Infinifactory inside, and survivors can work as your bots, arms, basic assemblers, etc. Expect survivors to ask for payment.

-As communities grow and are successful, they'll get immigrants and population booms, time to leave Dwarf Fortress behind and go full SimCity. That is, assuming they even listen to you of course; hopefully you've played enough Tropico.

(cont.)

-Buildings don't spring up just like that either, so you've gotta design them too. Same goes for the electric network, and the communications network.

-As NPC and player driven alliances between communities grow, nations appear and you can go full politics, espionage and infowars, stealing other player's designs. Become James Bond, slayer of Donut Steel.

-Nascent civilization allows for larger armies, and full on large scale RTS: Macro beats micro but requires strong logistics, while micro can be used to beat the logistics and thus macro. You've got to be extra careful, since this'll generate a lot of corpses, and thus zombies to deal with.

-The endgame is to find the seven macguffins that can be assembled into an artifact that can be used either to mindcontrol an increasingly large number of zombies as you waste increasingly large ammounts of resources on it; if you reduce the resources used, the zombies over your control limit will attempt to destroy the artifact; be extremely vigilant of your supply lines.

-Alternatively, the artifact can be used to lift the zombie curse, thus ending the game and restarting everything; expect wars on how the artifact should be used, or even wether it should be assembled at all.

>What would it look like if kerbniggers infiltrated and tainted the project?
The game wouldn't happen at all. Not like it'd happen if they didn't infiltrate, either.

You're nowhere near my ammount of ideaguy-ness, user

Fuck it, let's mix this user's zombies with 's procedural animals

I thought of an idea for a survival game at one point, it's not /egg/ though. It'd be the most realistic human biology simulator ever made, put inside of a very realistic ballistics simulator in a post-nuclear world. Every single internal organ, muscle group, bone, and major blood vessel would be simulated. You might try to execute somebody with a forehead shot and have it bounce back and kill you instead (only lower powered handgun rounds obviously), or shoot someone in the balls and make them sterile. This is of course backed by an advanced medical system, you could use hemostats to close an artery, suture them back together, and then clean and bandage it. Your medical skills would be greatly reduced on yourself due to pain, so it's best to not get shot.

There'd also be very advanced food, calories, macronutrients, and every micronutrient is required. To make eating less of a hassle, eating everything in one big meal at the start of the day is acceptable, and you can even set up a system to automatically buy and eat food and any vitamins you might need every time you sleep in a city.

In addition to that, it'd need really fucking good AI with realistic responses to combat. Some might freeze up, others might shit themselves and spray bullets everywhere, some might not be able to shoot at all, whereas elite soldiers will never hesitate and instantly go for cover when shot at.

>You might try to execute somebody with a forehead shot and have it bounce back and kill you instead (only lower powered handgun rounds obviously)

Heck, get Azanor to work on it and make the ultimate "fukken technomagic" simulator.

I require a context and/or a source for the image

Add genetic engineering and give us bioclang.

>lightning hoods
>white flayers
>twin guard

What do?

This has actually happened in real life before.

Can you run away to space or does it reset the altitude every time you spawn in or out?

You can say that but I don't believe it.

newsfeed.time.com/2013/12/30/bullet-bounces-off-of-victims-face-and-kills-robber/
Skulls are fucking strong, they weren't made to stop bullets but with the right luck that doesn't matter.

I think you're misinterpreting this slightly. There were multiple assailants. IMO the person who pulled the trigger and the person who died were no the same person. A glancing ricohet is believable but not a bullet doing a 180 and killing the shooter.

It didn't say that the guy who died was the shooter, and it did mention that another guy might've been the shooter. Still, if a guy is on his knees and the bullet hits at an angle it could bounce off, hit you in the foot and kill you from infection a few weeks later.

Fuck ballistics, what about melee?
What about engineering our own power armour?

The only problem I see with this one is that it can't really be MMO as there wouldn't be a fair way for new players starting in a shitty empty settlement to compete with other people who have OTTD-levels of logistic networks and economies.

It would be good as a single player game or, alternatively, a server based game where everyone starts at the same time and no new players are allowed to enter as long as the game is not restarded

There'd be melee too of course, power armor is a bit outside the tech level of the game but I'd try to include exoskeletons if possible. You could engineer those yourself, from slow abominations made out of washing machine motors and rebar to military grade shit that's mostly found under heavy guard or in forgotten bunkers with automated defenses. In general there wouldn't be much futuristic stuff, maybe a non-lethal microwave gun or blinding laser rifles.

How do i claim Asteroids again?

Fly up to a really big one, within 200 meters. Click F on it and you can claim it. Only the stone roids can be claimed, ones that have resources can only be mined. Pretty sure these asteroid are only in hidden sectors.

Can I have some guidelines for finding valuable objects in Avorion that my long range radar detects? All I see is a massive asteroid field, flied through it a couple of times and didn't find anything.

I may have found a new, more powerful form of the weaponized brick. The weaponized brick with thruster struts. I didn't make it larger cuz muh mechanics, but otherwise I would've made it a giant framework all around the vehicle.

does it actually increase torque?

I've been hit with 12 gauge birdshot I fired at a crt tv. Also there are at least two videos on youtube with people being hit by their own bullets, one guy shot a car wheel with a 9mm and another guy got hit with his own 50bmg out in the desert, shit you not. Granted, the targets were not skulls, but it's not completely entirely out of the realm of possibility. Maybe.

I don't know, I've never been to space yet.

Christ. I fucked up /egg/

When playing Abortion I'd always crash when I looked at, was near, or sometimes just in the same sector as any semi-large scale battle (essentially any faction invasion), but for some fucking reason, like a god damn retard I decided to look at the battle.

I crashed instantly and now can't open my save file any more because it crashes before I can even fully load in.

I had 30 hours in that save file.
I had defeated two bosses and made over 10 million dollars and was finally on the high road to success in that save file.

Fucking kill me.

Fucking.
Kill me.

Works on my machine

It's a long shot but maybe the game will run using on-board video instead of the gfx card? Just enough to create a new save?

It seems to, and if not you can still use them as rhino horns for ramming.

EVE seems to work. Every few years or so one of those empires falls and a power vacuum develops that allows for new power players. When the Goon Empire fell there was a massive portion of the galaxy now free to be taken by anyone.

I turned down and disabled the last of my options and disabled damage numbers.

I managed to be able to load in for around a second before crashing
So, I kept doing that until I'd inched myself to and through a nearby gate.

Scared the ever-loving shit out of me

>your ships drifts 0.01 away from the dock while trading

In abortion the trading system offered me a trade route. I bought a bunch of shit and now the destination has no docking ports and I cannot sell it. Fuck you trading plugin.

why are docks even needed to trade? more frustrating than anything else.

>someone took the time to do all of this
And then you see people being shamed to do stupid OC.
Gee i wonder what studio could be behind this.

Abortion universe doesn't seem to have any kind of teleportation technology. Space-time warp, wormholes, hyperspace, but no teleportation. So if you want to transfer something between ships and stations, naturally you have to dock, or at least get close enough so the drones will do the hauling.

Yes but EVE is a completely different game than what you described.
EVE focuses more on the RPG element and the economy, there is no base building, no ship building except for the combination of modules and weapons you have available (the shape and base features remain the same), no classic RTS elements and most of what you listed is completely absent from EVE.

Although I see some similarities, I don't think it's fair to compare the two.

In EVE you have ships and that's it, while in your game you have ships, bases, defenses and whatnot that make the technological gap between new and old player much more relevant.

youtube.com/watch?v=yMnOEgbm2fE

I'm not even sure if it's pro or anti trump. I guess since they made the dick-rockets so tiny it's supposed to be anti-trump? It kind of backfired for me though because the idea of trump crushing beaners in a giant mech is hillarious and gets me hard.

how big can you go in abortion?

ships have infinite fuel capacity. I should be able to trade with anything in the sector remotely.
At the very least I should be able to have drones take care of everything when i'm within a km of the station as a whole rather than within 0.0 km of a not-guaranteed dock block

In the end a mayan (?) pyramid/spaceship drops a normal chicken on the ground and it destroys the mech.
Trump is medevac'd but there is no surgeon to operate on him (cuz he was deported) and it's implied he dies because of that

My guess is yes, it must be anty-trump.
But i also started to reverse engineer how to build a mecha like that in spengos, knowing it will clang to hell, but i dont care anymore.
I remember a webm from the demo, and you could go so big that you couldnt see the entire thing because it went out of the render area.
Id say pretty big.

>no base building, no ship building
>no classic RTS elements
>In EVE you have ships and that's it
Uhh, are you sure about that?

Fuck my game corrupted i was half way to the center. this shit really turns me off to play the game, at least i have my blueprints i guess

Make hourly backups of your save.

Last time I played EVE was like 3 years ago and there was no base building.
You could consider the combat to be RTS, but that's why I said classic RTS (I.e. base management, defense management and all the micro that is strictly not about combat units) as that is what, I believe, was the inspiration for the game described by the guy I was quoting.

Did EVE get base building in the last years?

Where's the save Folder?

Remember kids, when you start a mega project make sure you got the dosh for it!

For the pirated version at least with the steam emu, AppData/Roaming/Avorion

Yes you can make your own stations now. And one of the largest battles so far was the destruction of a Keepstar which is 300b ISK.

Ah shit I didn't know that
What do you do with the station? Is it like an automated, self-sufficient outpost or is there some kind of management involved beyond the building phase?

Initiating docking procedures

>Half way to the center

Don't worry you were probably less than 10% of the way there.
I still don't even know how to get to the center yet.

>what is a POS
There has been basebuilding for over a decade. Member Titans? You needed RETARDED infrastructure to build even one. Having more than five, no matter the size of your faction, was considered an insane investment. The Russians had 20 in 2006.

I noticed that titanium crew quarters have the same amount of extra crew as iron (which is logical). Besides the additional hit points, do more expensive materials perform better? Like generators give more power for the same size?

I know new blocks and functions are unlocked at higher tiers, but do existing ones get better?

Titanium is the lightest if I remember correctly so that should give you less mass for the same space.
Generators are better the better the material you use. Same with shield gens and hyperdrives. Not sure about thrusters.

>docking
LEWD!

can you make carriers in avorion?

>have hangar blocks
>can u carrier

>new patch
>Blocks inside integrity fields can now take 10 times as much damage before they explode
does this mean they don't stack or that size doesn't matter, or?

yes

It means the block has 10x more hp before it explodes.

You're not replying to the actual ideaguy (me) but you're kinda right it could suck.

Then again, you are a survivor, not a metaphysical entity, so you could use the OTTD logistics and migrate to the big city, assuming you didn't possess an NPC at the big city when you spawned. There being GUIs that'd facilitate the RTS, politics and and design side of things doesn't mean you're bound to a place. You could emigrate further away into uncivilized areas to try and grow, even go full secesionist revolutionaire.

And, hell, big empires have big death tolls, even for natural causes; a well placed strike could very well end up in a city falling to zombie uprising, so it'd be hard for big berthas to grow big.
...Which would give rise the issue of griefers just going out to kill any NPC they see to start a zombie downfall. Not sure how I'd go about fixing that, but preventing such a possibility is right out.

The real issue would be metacomms, ss13 already battles that issue, and it's in a WAY smaller game area way easier to monitorize for clues. Lots of dreams, and lots of issues that make the dream impossible, unless I somehow went full SAO and kidnapped the players' minds and my servers were powered on elven mayjjicks and unicorn pee

page ten

factorio .15 fucking wheeeennnnnnnn

I want to play but I don't want to get burnt out before .15 is released

god dammit, avorion is crashing on me every time i do a hyperspace jump

Then don't

it doesnt
hp pool isnt increased.

You are retarded on purpose right now?
Nobody told the ship hp will increase, it increases the BLOCKS hp!

SUPPOSEDLY in February.

What game is this?
