Literally WTF

If Volkswagen means People's Car, then why do their cars break so often and are expensive to fix?

I'm speaking about only VW cars and that excludes Audis, Skoda, SEAT and other companies owned by VW.

Volkswagen being called the "people's car" comes from the fact that the Nazis offered a program in which their citizens could get points on a voucher and eventually have enough that the government would give them a beetle (it wasn't called a beetle at the time, nor was the company called Volkswagen)

Unfortunately the Nazis soon began preparing for war and the car's factory was used to make war machines and no one ever received the cars they worked so hard for. Pretty fucked up move by the Nazis honestly.

It was called "Kraft durch Freude Wagen" or simply KdF Wagen. Kraft durch Freude was the program that organized vacations etc. to ensure the Gleichschaltung, I don't know the english term for it.

Gleichschaltung = samegearing

>I don't know the english term for it.
Kraft durch Freude Wagen was a Nazi slogan.
Translated, it means "Strength through Joy Car"

It was the people's car. You can repair a Beetle all by yourself and it's retardely cheap to maintain.

On point question.

But they are not. At least they aren't here in Europe. If it's expensive for you to maintain golf or Passat you probably shouldn't own a car but rather use city transport.

Dumbass.

>break so often and are expensive to fix
How come my VW has had 0 issues in the 3 years i own it?
its a 2000 polo and i beat this car like i beat my meat?/?//

Implying Passats are anything else but pigfat corporate fleet shitboxes that no one ever buys new. Also have fun with them breaking down 5,000 miles after their lease is over.

Are DSGs as bad as they say?

if they called themselves shitwagen they wouldn't sell that good now would they.

If BMW called themselves WeUsePlasticImpellersForOurWaterpumpsAndEverythingThatIsMadeOutOfRubberWillBeGoneIn5YearsWeWillFuckYouOnceYourWarrentyRunsOutButWeWillGiveYouRWDwithOpenDifferentials that would be a lot more honest but it doesn't sound as good and would make for a shit badge

I don't like them at all.
I have a Touran with 200,000km, everytime i lift my foot of the brake and place it on the gas pedal, the clutch takes half a second too long so the revs are already to high and it jumps forward.
You have to lift your foot off the brake and wait until the clutch feels like engaging. Fucking Bullshit.

Old VWs were very reliable and easy to fix. Just look at the old Golfs. Sadly they have the same problems as all the other german cars nowadays.

>says a guy who secretly repairs his vw

It doesn't work that way.
A friend of mind had a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta with the 2.0L SOHC 8 valve I4. Well after it was totaled, he replaced it with a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT with a 3.8L pushrod 12 valve V6.

It cost him less to buy 6 spark plugs and wires for the V6 in the Pontiac than it did to buy 4 spark plugs and wires for the VW.

It does not make sense. The parts are absurdly expensive here for absolutely no reason.

Arent foreign manufacturer parts always way more expensive than domestic ones in murica?

Not really. Most parts for older Hondas are pretty cheap, even if you go OEM

not all the time. No one I know has ever had that issue when getting parts for Japanese or Korean cars. It's always German cars and always for no fucking reason.

>yfw the Germans have become the Jews

>why do their cars break so often
they objectively don't. I know that's not how the meme works, sorry.

I have a 2000 Fabia, these things are unkillable.

As far as i know german parts are build in mexico in the USA right? Maybe theres some import tax on it or something.

>As far as i know german parts are build in mexico in the USA right?
For the most part, yes
>Maybe theres some import tax on it or something.
Nope. Although Trump is talking about imposing a 20% tariff on goods imported from Mexico to pay for his Mexican wall. Fucking retard

r u calling trump a retard on Veeky Forums m8?
We wave the flag in our front yards you do know that rite?

Whats stopping Mexico from just making stuff 20% more expensive?

>r u calling trump a retard on Veeky Forums m8?
yes
>We wave the flag in our front yards you do know that rite?
so? I have the right to have my own opinion. For now anyways. We'll see about after Trump burns the US Constitution saying it's outdated and the statue of liberty is a 3.

their reliable on America buying their products.

you dont call trump a retard here faggot, you are bound to get btfo, i'll shove my 8 inches of freedom down your boypucci untill you apologize you dumbass libtard.

Get rekt faggot you have no right to voice your opinion if you call our lord and savior a retard.
not a true patriot probably doesnt even support out troops sjw lesbian?

Yeah but does America need Mexicos products? Im not from the USA so i dont really know about the economic situation. Would there be cheaper alternatives if Mexico just increased their prices?

i expect better bait from Veeky Forums. this is just weak, can someone post the GTR image?

Go suck mexican dick faggot, you wont be welcome once we made america great again go fuck yourself

If we're putting zero effort in, sure.

Nissan GTR was engineered by Americans, what are you trying to prove?

anecdotes like this don't mean anything

I just had the axle and CV joint replaced on my Jetta for less than just replacing the CV boot on my old ford escort.

My Jetta really doesn't cost more to repair than any other car I have ever had and most of the problems come from roadsalt rust and the shitty winters we have here.

Nothing, I'm just shitposting while putting zero effort in. Much like you.

Oh, almost forgot: GM BTFO.

your mum sucks cock

>Yeah but does America need Mexicos products?
the long and short of it is yes, we do need their products.
for example. Let's keep this Veeky Forums related and star with subcompact cars.
There is only one subcompact car built in America, the Chevrolet Sonic.
Meanwhile the Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Fiat 500, Nissan Versa and Versa Note, and the Toyota Yaris iA.
The Toyota Yaris and Smart Fortwo are built in France.
The Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, and Chevrolet Spark are built in South Korea
and the Mitsubishi Mirage is built in Taiwan.

So yes, a Mexican tariff would hugely impact us.

>Meanwhile the Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Fiat 500, Nissan Versa and Versa Note, and the Toyota Yaris iA.
are built in Mexico.
fuck me. My head is fuzzy. excuse me.

no u

They should just start importing all the french cars like the Clio, Twingo and the small Peugeots.

If i was your mum you wouldnt be living on foodstamps

or they could just make a factory here instead of Mexico. That is the whole point, he wants the manufacturing to take place in the United States. What might help it come back is to fuck over the auto unions, as they make the workers so much more expensive. Also if he rolls back SOME EPA and safety requirements, cars would be much cheaper

The stories of unreliability are a bit exaggerated I find. They are relatively hard to work on and the parts are expensive though.
Compared to Jap stuff they are relatively unreliable, compared to everything else they're on par.

because you suck cock so good you get tips

>Fuel pump fails after 190k miles
What a shitty vehicle
not
The "VW's always break" Me-Me is way overplayed.

If you dont take care of them (like any car) they will break, no shit.

The one thing I'll give VW critics credit for are that the dealerships are fucking horrible. but thats the entire dealership industry in North America being complete garbage.

I walked into a VW dealership in Europe just to check out the Amarok and it was a super nice dealership with extremely helpful staff who didn't mind answering my questions despite the fact I wasn't going to buy a car and was a foreigner.

What Trump SHOULD do.

Is make American safety standards the same as the rest of the worlds

There are 3 safety standards in the world

US
Canada (Which is already making the UNECE standards part of its laws with their new CETA agreement with the EU
UNECE LHD/ RHD (The rest of the world)

Once all those standards become harmonized you could actually have Globally produced vehicles exported from the US. very few cars made in america are exported from america.

but that means americans get dictated to by foreigners

>Canada (Which is already making the UNECE standards part of its laws with their new CETA agreement with the EU

this could also significantly drop the price of European cars in Canada.

>generic ass Ford Taurus
>de-badged
>aftermarket HID lights
>pinstriping on the hood
>Chevy Performance front plate
>spraypainted black OEM wheels

wtf?

>If you dont take care of them (like any car) they will break, no shit.
Yeah a Bentley is totally reliable if you check everything in it before you take it for a drive.

I think its just a burger-meme since their VWs are build in mexico. Ive never heard of any of them breaking, hell driving schools use Golfs here and most of them last 130k km even though people are learning to drive manual in them.

OR, better yet, you could just buy a car that doesn't break down all the time.

I feel like we get shittier VW's here in burgerland than you guys do in Europe. Juan can't build German cars for shit

Thats probably what everyones complaining about. Hans in his spotless factory probably makes better cars than Juan in his shed while cartels try to steal his parts.

>Meanwhile the Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Fiat 500, Nissan Versa and Versa Note, and the Toyota Yaris iA.
implying they're good cars anyway, the 500 is liteally a death trap, if you jump off a bridge you're better off than driving it

...

the cruze isnt a subcompact tho

>axle and CV joint
How much did you pay for that? I had it done too. That's the only thing I have had done besides new tires.

So they'll start making the next generation of subcompacts here, big deal.

The Cruze is a compact, not a subcompact.

No they won't. They'll shift production elsewhere. Like Canada.
>Trumptards actually believe tariffs will make companies move to US production.
HA! Only if he imposes Tariffs on anything not built in America, like Brazil does.

>canada

kek, really m8? Not only is that more expensive than producing in the US, but they'd still end up paying a tariff.

you basically said your mum sucks cock really good

>he thinks there's a tariff on goods imported from Canada
There isn't one.
>He thinks Canada is more expensive to build in than America
It's actually about the same or even slightly less expensive.

There isn't a tariff on goods imported from Mexico either, this is purely hypothetical.

And no, Canada is generally more expensive to manufacture in unless you catch a good deal.
